Good headset (or headphone/mic combo) for 0-200$?

tacticious

Hey guys, I'm looking into a new headset since my Vengeance 2100 is starting to die on me.

I am looking for a headset with good sound and a good mic.

I've been interested in Logitech G430 , HyperX Could IIs and maybe SteelSeries Siberia Elite Prism, but I wanted a second opinion.

How good are those? Any other recommendations? Also, how viable is a combination of maybe ATH-m50x and like a modmic 4?

I am not looking for the most expensive option here - I am currently a university student so budget doesn't have to be out of control, but i am ready to go up to the $200 mark if it's really worth it. I am looking for something that will carry me for at least 1 and a half - 2 years.

The M50X has a small soundstage and is bad for gaming.

AKG K612 Pro and a Mod Mic would be good.

Headphones that are built good enough can last for decades provided its been taken care of decently such as not banging them around and what not. My AKG K240 Sextett (this was in the 90's) still works to this day and I bought it second hand just recently.

Either DT 770 + mod mic, or Sennheiser HD 598 + modmic, the open soundstage on the Senns will make it better for gaming, but I think the DT 770s are more comfortable. I'd say go for 770 if you are a basshead, and 598 if you like a bright sparkly sound signature with focus on mids and highs.

You don't need to be a basshead to enjoy the DT 770 PROs. It helps though.

Personally I don't find the 598s the best of value. Hate or love it color scheme, uses the exact same drivers as the 558/518, very similar sound.

I would look into a closed back pair since sound leakage will be a problem with open back. IEMs are also an option if you need isolation and portability.
