Help: Random Screen Blackouts

I've been experiencing random screen blackouts lately. It just turns black and then comes back after around 5-10 seconds and happens even when I'm not doing anything. The monitor doesn't seem to lose detection since no usual prompt pops up. Any application I'm using, or video I'm watching just continues running while this happens too.

This only started happening since I started using DisplayPort instead of DVI for my BenQ XL2420T monitor. I misplaced the DVI cable that came with it and had a very difficult time finding a DVI Dual Link cable that let me run 120hz. I opted to try DisplayPort instead and bought one from a local store. The DisplayPort cable's brand is CableMatters. 120hz works perfectly using this cable, but then the screen blackouts started happening.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and believes it's because of DisplayPort. I really don't want to hunt for cables again, and the particular DisplayPort cable I purchased was pretty pricey as well. But I'd be much happier knowing the cable was the only issue than if it were my CPU, GPU, PSU, MoBo, or anything else.

Thanks!

My specs are:

Monitor: BenQ XL2420T 120hz
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k 3.5GHz OC to 4.2GHz
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO for OS
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970
RAM: 16GB G.Skill 1600

Do you get notifications that the video driver has stopped responding and has recovered? Just wondering.
