PSU and fans for silent r5 build

Guest

I'll be using these parts

i5 4460

Not sure between be quiet and noctua cpu coolers and case fans, i know noctua uses Low noise adapters, which ill use. so dark rock pro or some dual pipe noctua cpu cooler. fans are either nf f12s or be quiet wings, reccomend me which ones to use and why.

8gb ddr3

msi b85

2 1tb drives with a 120gb ssd - i really need to know what to do with the mechanicals, i might switch fully ssd but the r5 comes with rubber vibration things on the hdd cages, which will help a bit.

psu - needs to be 550w+ fully modular and silent, so far the evga 750 g2 is my choice, can anyone vouch for the silence?

gpu: hd 7850 - already know its silent

Kinda merged my specs with questions there but I want to know which brand of products are best for silence in my r5 case basically.

Im in AU and i can ship parts so any good retailer is... good (I live near umart though). Money is not an issue as long as it's quality

I'd go with the bequiet silent wings. They're pretty silent and look a heck of a lot better than noctuas as well. The bequiet air coolers are pretty good as well, some of the best looking air coolers i've ever seen.

No graphics card?

Where are you shopping/located? Is budget not an issue?

does be quiet use the low noise adapters to? I wander. They are black so that's good but I wander how they keep the sound out

They come with a 4pin molex to 5v, 7v, and 12v adapter.

Which 7850? Are you running it passively?

Any amount of things can contribute to a fans noise. Be that the blade design, blade size, bearing, motor, and many other variables.

I think they do have a thing on their site about the technology that they use.

asus directcu ii, passive unless under load, I was thinking of doing some crazy cpu cooler mods on it, but the noise under load doesnt bother me.

And with the fans I meant the screws they use. I think noctua uses some rubbery thing which I don't even know how works. wandering if the wings use them and if not if it matters.

There is some information on their latest fan here.

If you have the budget grab some Noiseblocker E Loops, For power supply, if you're willing then you can grab a SilverStone NightJar 520W which is passive

Unless I'm missing something in your build or future expansion plans, 550+ watts seems overkill. Why not go for a totally fanless PSU (such as the Seasonic Platinum Series FL2 (available in 400/460/520 watts))?

They use rubber and plastic mounting screws.

A fanless 212 Plus: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rrb10212pg1

and a NF-S12A for rear exhaust/bottom intake should be plenty of cooling: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfs12apwm

i think be quiet is better since its not brown. i wont have a side window but why not have black?

and i will be intaking with 2 fans in the front, 1 rear exhaust. no top exhaust

and in au hyper 212s are way to expensive, especially if no fan is required

Surely, by definition, fanless PSUs should be less scary because there's no fan to fail and potentially trigger a thermal shutdown or other problems? If the fan fails under heavy load on an actively cooled PSU you're probably going to be in trouble, and you should hope that it fails fast (i.e. triggers a thermal shutdown and shuts down the system). Seasonic are absolutely one of the most reputable power supply companies on the market - it seems reasonable to trust them. Also, I suggested a fanless Seasonic because you said "Money is not an issue as long as it's quality" in your OP. Ultimately it's your money, but if "silent" operation really is a priority you should consider a fanless PSU.

right. this is right. but im considering what i need here. If the fans are silent it doesnt really matter, and having mechanical drives is going to be louder than any fan I can have in my system, so why not have them? However I think what i'll do is when I switch to fully ssd, I will have a cpu fanless hyper 212, seasonic fanless, with no case fans, but until then, it's going to be loud on the hdds anyway, so i'll leave the cpu fans on, but obviously I can't just take the fan off the psu like i can with the cpu cooler, so getting a fanless is probably the way to go. exhaust and intake fans wont be needed then too. I'll check out seasonics prices. They are quality so i have no problem buying them, I just thought I wouldn't need it, but it makes chronological sence.

My current psu buzzes though, so its not technically 0db (discluding fan) so i'm worried the seasonic wont buzz, so its 0db

the seasonic is $189, fully modular platnium - no black cables - kinda a turn off.

I can get a evga 750 g2 for cheaper

NF-S12A's are quieter than anything BeQuiet! offers and have excellent airflow/noise. If you don't want beige/brown fans, you could go with redux NF-S12B's: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfs12bredux1200pwm

A single bottom intake would probably be as good as 2 front intakes due to less impedance.

The Hyper 212 isn't the only option. The T4 should be fine passive as well: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rrt418pkr1

No fans are silent. The fan of the psu is both replaceable and removable but not recommended if you don't know what you're doing.

Both are much overkill. A decent 350w would already be plenty.

A NeoEco 520 should be very quiet: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-neoeco520c

I think I've decided on the fans, I'll go with the brown nf series. I don't care for looks, I just thought that be quiet would be just as good.

t4 should be fine no fan.

but the psu is so hard for me. a lot of good ones arent available and the 750 g2 is 150 (not to expensive) and fanless is like 189 with ugly cables. then again im getting noctua fans...

I might open another thread for the psu or something, really bothering me.
