I heard the asus Strix stays pretty quiet.

ive heard strix has awful coil whine commonly. I'd rather have a loud fan than coil whine

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

i have a 970 strix, and its pretty dang quiet until it gets under high load, then it gets on the loud side. (that said, its compared to a dead quiet rest of the room)

EDIT: should mention its fan sounds, not coil whine or any other horrible sounds.

While the Strix does offer quiet fan performance, that line (at least with the 970) has been plagued with coil wine sure to poor power delivery setup.

Edit: Based on the majority of online reviews

I've got no problems with mine :P. My HDD is the loudest thing in my PC apart from the case fan :/ Which sounds like a jet engine when it ramps up but hasn't happened recently.

It is a case by case scenario, yes. Honestly it's always best to take reviews with a grain of salt.
