The short lifespan came from Intel's problems with the Haswell release being delayed tons but them still wanting to keep up the Skylake release schedule I think. Something like that anyway.

I thought Haswell was on schedule, but Broadwell was the one that was delayed much. Either way though... I guess.

Both Haswell and Broadwell got delayed;

Haswell just slightly, while Broawell's delay was close to 9 months or something like that.

 

As per OP: no one could really reccomend to get Broadwell, since the supply was limited, with few (2) desktop parts and a new 14 nm architecture just around the corner. Also, the 14 nm process has matured more for Skylake.

Broadwell was a pointless release for 99% of users.

Reviews of the Broadwell desktop CPUs showed almost 60% better integrated graphics performance over the Kaveri APUs. Yep, total knockoff.

Even CPU performance is measurably better in certain games, presumably due to the on-die 128 MB eDRAM.

Because of the emphasis on iGPU of broadwell, it makes for a great mobile CPU, but since almost everyone buying an i5/i7 have discreet graphic cards, it renders half the CPU useless for most gamers. I think it was mostly done to kill AMD's APUs even if Intel knows it's not a product that will florish much more. Same with the Titan X, they had AMD marketing GPUs as 'Titan X killers' when they all along were planning on releasing a Titan X killer of their own AKA 980 ti

it fell between the cracks...looks it's down there somehwere.

It has amazing IPGu which nobody really care about and perform not any better than haswell and it won't overclock as well either that's why it has fell between the cracks.

What does that have to do with upgrading? I wouldnt be able to use my normal DDR3 DIMMs?
