Dual Monitors

Hey

I just finish building my new PC and i have a old monitor i want to add as my secondary until i get the cash to buy a new one but it only has a VGA connection and i have it connected to my motherboard at the moment but i want them both on my GPU

i have a Asus Strix GTX970 and i want to know which i need

 

DVI-A to VGA

or

DVI-I 24+5M Male to HD15 VGA Female Adapter HDB15F ADAPTOR

You should be connecting it to the GPU not the motherboard, you can use a DVI-I to VGA adapter.

They're both exactly the same. Only the pins present on the DVI-A adapter are used in VGA adapters. The extra pins on the DVI-I adapter are just dummy pins which are not connected to anything.

what about the DVI-A to VGA i ask because it is cheaper

 

It's like a few dollars maybe but it will still work since it has the pins on the far left which are used for the VGA connection:
