Display issues with linux mint: Sorted

Hey I just set up my old computer with mint 17.2 Cinnamon and im a bit of a noob with it

I am having issues getting my display to work properly.

If I use my main monitor (asus 1440p) it will not let me set over 1689x1050. If I use my 2nd monitor it lets me set 1080p but it is over scanned.

Im wondering if I need to update the graphics driver but I cannot work out how to do that.

Im using the onboard graphics of my 2500k.

it is detecting the graphics card as intel 2nd generation core... so that seems correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I just remembered that the 2500k cannot output 1440p over DVI. so thats the issue with the first monitor sorted.

Also should note that my 1080p monitor is just a cheap viewsonic and does not allow changing display size in the menu over HDMI.

Edit x2: I just found in the input select menu on the monitor it lets you select between AV and PC. Switching it to PC stopped the overscanning.
