derick90

Building my 2nd pc ever, last pc I built was at the dawn of DDR2 so yeah, its been a while, any hooters this will be for 1080p video editing, gaming, CoD, WoW, Counterstrike... you get the picture. I already have a Deathstalker Ultimate, 2013 Naga, and Logitech G430 so I'm good on peripherals. Any constructive advice is welcome, Thanks.

To be honest, I have a similar build that I'll be putting together as my first, and this should be able to do those things you mentioned - overkill-y

I would get a higher capacity PSU.

All looks good, that will run like a boss.

Actually don't get a green HDD, they are slower than blues or blacks.

What is wrong with hyperx fury ram

I wasn't on about the actual make of the RAM - HyperX RAM is fine, I was talking about the speed of the RAM, even though some people can argue that it doesn't make much of a difference, I like it to be 2000+ in a build, unless you're trying to go for a budget build.

Go with 4 x 4GB Ram as you can make use of Quad channel on X99.

I would go with a WD Blue over the WD Black. The Black drives can be noisy.

You also want a better psu. The EVGA NEX isn't that good. I would suggest the EVGA G2/GS, Antec Edge, XFX XTR or anything from Seasonic.

Check this out:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bLc73C

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($369.90 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($149.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($99.39 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($49.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB AMP! Extreme Video Card  ($671.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Fractal Design Define S w/Window ATX Mid Tower Case  ($80.10 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($111.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit)  ($89.75 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: AOC q2963Pm 60Hz 29.0" Monitor  ($349.99 @ B&H)

Total: $2182.57

Note: I've assumed that you've went for the white/black theme based on your latest build.

CPU: Skylake, newer, simmilar/a little better (sometimes) performance.
GPU: Went for a Zotac AMP! Edition instead because it has a higher clock speed.
Storage: Changed to a WD Caviar Blue 1TB hard drive, great reviews, just a few dollars more.
PSU: 850w 80+ Gold Fully Modular EVGA G2 PSU, this is pretty good and because it's a fully modular PSU, you can get some custom white cables to make the build sexier.
Case: Define S, Sexy case, lots of space and cheaper.
Monitor: Changed back to 60 HZ. However, this 29 inch monitor would look a lot better and it's 21:9 which will give you a wider viewing angle.

If you want to go even further, you might want to have these cables to make your build look even better: Click Here! It's compatible with the PSU I've chosen for this build and It'll make it looks sexy af. :)

Wow I'm digging all the helpful feedback, all of those suggestions look great, but I've definitely got my heart set on the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv, planning to go as stealth as I can with minor accents and muted white leds

consider this: changed the mobo and the psu

edit:

with your budget, you could play at 1440p if you like. 1440p is much better than 1080p, but it's up to you

this would be a good 1440p build for gaming. the i7 would be good for workstation use as well. x2 980's in sli will play 1440p games very well with high frame rates. x2 980's in sli will perform better than a single 980 ti

edit:

make sure you overclock everything. i have guides on how to do this for the cpu and gpu; links are in my forum signature

edit:

if you're using it as a workstation as well, i'd recommend you get more storage if you can afford it. 1tb fills up quick
