Budget 1080p monster, $800-900 Budget

Ders

What up guys, I wanted to get your opinion on a new build that I have spent the last couple days working on. The main point here is to be able to create a machine that can melt 1080p games to nothing and eventually handle the transition to 4k gaming with grace. I dont need to do any sort of rendering or streaming because none of that interests me, however i do want to be able to emulate at least a gamecube.

I chose an i5 4460 because it is a good, solid processor for the money and is pretty much the standard for modern pc gaming. This isnt a decision thats set in stone. If you guys think i could make a better choice here, let me know what it is.

The motherboard was an easy choice because asus is a great brand and this one is on sale plus it has sli and crossfire support for really cheap.

Memory im not really sure about either, not sure whether i should use 1 8gb card or 2 4gb cards. But whatever, lemme know what you think.

Storage isnt important, i dont mind load times. I can always get an ssd later.

The 290 was my gpu choice because right now its a good price, can handle 1080p like a total beast and can even do some 1440p. when its being crossfired im sure it can handle some light 4k games. Is this the best choice? I know nvidia is bundling their cards with MGS which is cool but im not a huge fan so performace for price is more important here.

I chose that power supply so that i wouldnt need to buy a new one if i wanted to run crossfire or sli. does anyone know how well it would fit in that case?

The rest are periphrials that i need because i dont have anything else to use in their place, so they must be considered in the final cost.

Thanks guys, this is a great site full of great people. So much more helpful than r/buildapc (no offense to any of your regulars there)

Edit: I forgot to mention that a friend of mine is lending me his copy of Windows 7 so I won't need to buy that.

You could switch out the video card for an r9 390 if you want that 8gbs of ram but the 290 is still good. Also, to save money you can opt for a h97 variant.

Acer H236HL

They're both 1080p 60hz IPS monitors, and the same size and price. Why should i choose this one?

This is a really unbalanced build. I would suggest checking out logicalincrements.com for some pretty balanced builds.

what is an h97 variant? and also do you think the 390 is worth the extra cash? it would end up costing me around another 70-80 to get one and that's not very fun.

Monitor: AOC i2267Fw 60Hz 22.0" Monitor  ($119.99 @ Amazon)

You could find the i2367fh for about another $15, and its another inch and a half of screen space (The i2267fw isn't really 22", its a little less than 21.5"). If you don't really care, than the one you have now is still a good monitor, but an inch and a half can be more than it seems

what do you mean by unbalanced? on that website they have the r9 290 paired with an i5 4430 which is worse than the one i've selected and also 8gb of ram. the rest of my parts are totally fine.

You do not really have to go get the r9 390, I guess it would be better because you will be crossfiring later on and having 8gb will be good for future games. But for what your are doing it probably will not matter anyways. Also, the h97 motherboards are pretty much like the z87 only that it does not allow for overclocking of ram and k series cpu. Since your cpu cannot overclock, it might save some money to go with the h97. The z87 you chose however is quite cheap so you would only save like $10 going to h97.

I'm talking about replacing the graphics card with the r9 390. The parts are not gonna be able to take full potential of the r9 390.

Oh, yeah that actually makes a lot of sense. My CPU wouldnt really be able to handle the full capabilities of it especially if i tried to crossfire. And I don't plan on gaming on 1440p because i feel next jump should be 4k and 1440 monitors can be expensive. I think that this is the best the build is going to be.

Well I would say a 4460 is still capabale engouh to keep up with dual 390. I mean ...it is not an i3. Of courseyourperformance would be better with a 5960x but since your are going for th "I wan this so I take the cheapest variant to make it fit into budget"-route your will have to make some compromise. but the i5 is not bad anway

how would i install windows onto it without it? and my room is like 80 ft away form the modem and i cant move it. I'm new to this.

also, you dont think that processor will inhibit the abilities of that GPU? and the monitor is 60hz 1080p so getting anything that will overpower that makes no sense

if it is 80ft you will be doing horribly with wifi anyway I would say.

So you're pretty much buying the CD drive to install windows. Right?

Here. Do this instead.

80ft... eehhhhhh. that sucks. 100ft Ethernet cable to the rescue!

at least... that's what I would do. running it through the attic and making a new outlet in my house.
