AKG K612 Pro or AKG Q701 Quincy Jones Signature?

HumbleMobo

So I was dead set on a pair of AKG K612 Pro's because of their great sound and affordability at around 150$ USD but then I saw a pair of AKG Q 701's for 199$ USD.  I'm confused because I thought they were supposed to be K branded headphones so my questions, are, are the Q 701's better than the 612 pro's, are they the same or better than the K701's and are these just expensive because of the name branding?

I'm told that the Q701 is still a dry headphone much like the K701. The K612 Pro was released along with the K712 Pro, if I remember correctly. The Q is for Quincy Jones, I believe, since he is (from what I'm told) endorsing that headphone.

If anyone wants to correct me, please do so. I am just basing it from info I've heard and read, but my sources can and could be wrong.

I wouldn't recommend Q701 unless you want to do some kind of modification to the headband.

The Q701 offers very little over the K612, aside from the removable cable.

Be wary of the q701, its a hit or miss. For me its a huge hit, I love it more than my HE-4 or DT880 but I heard opinions from friends and head fi that its sound is not for everyone.

Its comfy, much more comfortable then most heavy tight clamping headphones. Its sound and durability is the problem though.

Well, it wasn't for me. Those things on the band make it rather discomforting.

You will probably be in pain.. physcial pain if you buy Q701 without modding.... watch this review... it pretty well sums up the important points on comfort.  I have a pair that I have modded and love them.... great soundstange,  they are really good for gaming also.  You may need a amp thought so keep that in mine with the q701.

I didn't find it bad at all, especially when hearing about it.

But, I just tried it in store for a few min
