Is my cooler installed wrong? H110i lets CPU hit 90C at only 4.5Ghz?

I have a H110i GTX... which I assume is one of the most powerful AIO liquid coolers...

I ran Prime95 on a 4690k at 4.5Ghz and it hit 90C and crapped out? It didn't blue screen; it just turned off.

I don't understand; 4.5Ghz is really not that high of an overclock!

Is my CPU crappy? Or did I install the cooler wrong? Why is it so hot?

Thanks!

update: it turned off only after roughly 20 minutes of testing

Did your heatsink come with the thermal paste preinstalled? If not did you put a pea size dot and let it spread on it's own?

You ran prime 95 that is what the problem is, it kill LGA 1150. So no it probably isn't broken try aida 64 as that is better.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Voltage was sitting at 3.6 according to CPU-Z

Then i dont think your computer should be running. That would be a nuclear bomb before it fried the CPU.

Did you put thermal paste? did you put too much thermal paste? did you secure the cooler properly?

The H110i comes with thermal paste.

I got my 4690k used from eBay.

It's a real shitty overclocker. Can't even handle 4.5Ghz stress testing with watercooling -- and don't get my started on even trying 4.7Ghz on this thing!

Either I'm a dumbass at overclocking, or... this chip is crapo.

Luckily I have a 4790k that I just bought fresh and new. Junking the 4690k.
