Best off brand battery?

Hi Guys,

 

I want to buy a new battery for my Canon 650d, which uses the LP-E8 battery, but the official ones are way to expensive! at £30 each!

I found some off brand ones, Maxsimafoto, BPS, and Duracell. The duracell ones are the most expensive, at £15 each, but its still better than the Canon ones!

I would like 2 batteries. The maxsimafoto ones look alright, at £15 for 2. Do they work well? Some people say that they dont have the chip to show how much battery is left on the camera. That is a big downside, i need it to show, and not suddenly shut off...

 

Can someone tell me a good brand or link?

not an expert but I would pay more to know that I am using a trusted brand like canon or duracell.

But people are saying that even duracell ones dont have the chip. I cannot afford the Canon ones! £30 for 1 is wayy too much!

I would trust Duracell for batteries and you can always probably find some second hand Canon ones for good prices, the used market is always your friend in the world of photography

The cheap ones often do not report their battery life properly to the camera which can be an issue

 

I use ExPro ones in my Sony A7, got 2 and they work great, they are £15

wouldnt 2nd hand batteries have less power than when they were new?

there are bigger ones if you wnat for a backpack with like 10000+

The best brand is always the ones made by the manufacturer of the camera.  I may be willing to put in cheap eBay Chinese batteries for my LED panel lights and other accessories but for my camera, always the best.

 

And GBP 30 for each battery now could potentially save you hundreds in the future if the off brand battery causes damage to your camera.

Well cant you charge your battery packs for your camera on the go with these?

Just get an extra battery pack for your camera and always have one charging and one in use and swap them out as need be.

i dont think so, unless you get a usb charger, but they are very slow... i made another thread asking about battery banks... so i think hes getting confused

Nope, the charger for the battery doesn't run off portable power packs.

Yeah but they are going to be slow, and I don't think a small power station can fully charge a camera battery.

@OP, a fully charged battery for a Canon 650D can shoot around 440 photos a day (according to the CIPA rating), do you take more than 400 photos a day?

no, but i do shoot video, that drains it quickly.

and when i dont have access to a wall socket, its usually dead...

Ahh right, well I still say you should stick to the brand batteries instead of going for third party ones.  A small investment here can potentially save you headaches in the future.

yh, i might try the ones ShadowCaptain suggested, Amazon accept returns anyway. If its crap, then ill try the Duracell ones. If they are terrible too, i can always get the Canon ones.

By the way, the vertical grip for DSLRs tend to come with an adapter for using AA batteries.

yeah, i dont think i need one of those batteries... im not that pro!

 

A battery grip is a good idea, but i dont like the extra size it adds... so i wont get that

It's about 61 GBP and gives you about 5x the power capacity, according to their site at least.
