R9 380 4GB: Enough for 5760x1200

owen.fitzpatrick

Will the R9 380 4GB version be able to run 5760x1200 (almost 4k). I will start with a single monitor and have the three within a year or two, because of this I may be able to add another 380.

Is 4GB of VRAM enough for 5760x1200?

Can a 380 run 5760x1200 on newish games at reasonable settings?

Yes, I'm Australian and my dollar is equal to 1.4 of yours and stuff is generally more expensive here.

Is it possible to keep the same budget but upgrade to a 8gb 390 if necessary. (I have $1500 to spend on PC, keyboard, mouse and monitor and want to leave at least $250 for peripherals/monitor)

I'd want to go for a stronger card than that, depending on titles and settings - but I've been running some games at 5760x1080 on my GTX 680 without too many troubles - but these titles are mostly older.

Sig under construction.

Nope, it's not powerful enough to play new games at that res unless it's like ultra low settings

no, or at low-medium settings at best. 3 of them is going to be impossible for even a pair of 380s to drive in games on anything other than minimum

The vram is enough, but the card itself is not powerful enough - unless low settings are fine for you (perfectly reasonable).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Which games where you thinking? How many frames is acceptable for you? What level of detail is acceptable?

A 380 is not so bad that games won't be playable in terms of framerate at the lowest settings, as would be the case with a 370. But i would suggest you go for a 390 8GB instead.

Old Games yes, say Battlefield Bad Company or Battlefield 3/4 without heavy MSAA. (Was do-able on older single-gpu cards) But it still may not be a smooth 24/7 MINFPS of 60fps+ either.

Depends on the game really.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

You definitely wont be maxing out modern games at 60 fps at that resolution. The r9 380 can handle most modern games at 1080p with near 60 fps at maxed settings

4 GB of VRAM is enough for essentially any game available, including at that resolution. But you're going to want two cards, probably even if you went with the 390. 5760x1200 is quite close to 4K in terms of pixel area. A single 380 is woefully inadequate.
