Google’s Chrome Browser Will Begin Blocking Flash Web Ads

jos

Google’s Chrome browser on Tuesday will begin blocking Internet ads that use Adobe’s Flash technology, a move that will likely prompt advertisers to abandon the video format entirely.

As an alternative to Flash, Google suggests advertisers use HTML5 technology for their ads, which works across a wide range of devices and provides similar functionality to Flash but with more efficient performance.

Google offers tools to help marketers build ads in HTML5, and to convert Flash ads into HTML5 ones. But other ad networks and technology providers may have to tweak their offerings to ensure the ads they sell and create are actually loaded into users’ browsers.

According to data from ad management technology firm Sizmek, Chrome accounted for around 36% of Flash ads displayed during the first quarter of 2015.

Flash is becoming less significant as days pass.. hope it will reach its end of life soon... I guess embedded flash virus will stop...

I guess embedded flash virus will stop...

I don't know why it bothers me when people refer to it as one, but Flash isn't a virus.

If anything, it's closer to a rootkit.

Only a step further in the obvious yet slow death of Flash.

I just use Adblock anyway, I turned it off for a bit and found that google ads were targeted very well at me so I turned it back on xD

Flash could be considered a virus since it acts as a drive-by for malware. I wonder how noobs are going to play flashgames lol.

Trojans.

You probably mean java web start? Yeah that does have quite a lot of security holes and needs to be fixed, but java in general? It is actually a pretty damn good language imo.

Some games use Java, like Minecraft and Runescape.

Both are memory hogs and cpu hoggers. HTML5 for the win!

The html 5 web client is currently broken and buggy, the web client actually still uses Java but almost no one uses it anymore. Almost everybody now uses the desktop client and jadgex is also now working on a newer client. Development in the html5 version is halted until understanding of html5 tools and support improves.
