[Mini News] Fractal Design Testing their silence

Agent181

Wish they used a random case as well instead of just an open test bench, either way still pretty interesting.

Heard you mind goes crazy while being in one of these rooms because of the lack of sound waves bouncing back into your ears so your mind develops imaginary noises to stay sane.

Silence be damned, their cases are ugly/boring as hell looking.

Not that I like the insane gamer case look of some companies, but still......their cases just look so uninspired.

I wonder how the Design S is in terms of noise compared to the R5 (I own the Design S). And hi guys!

I have a gamer-style case in the living room where it can draw attention and an R5 tucked away in a corner.

The build quality is great and it was a pleasure to build in. It's just that it's a very functional case rather than a flashy one.

Perfect for a NAS really, which is why I used it for just that.

Problem with tests like this is it depends entirely on the components that you pick. Things like fans, power supplies, and even the video card can have a huge effect on the sound and the cooling of the case. Not to mention that you can position fans and components inside the case to maximize the cooling potential while running them at their lowest possible RPM to reduce sound too.

Also why compare it to an open air test bench? Something that only a few people might actually consider as a choice for their "case". Other than the fact that it is nearly the worst case scenario for sound and airflow...

Wooo marketing!

Josh you're always entertaining, but this was pretty weak to me. Take the marketing budget and use it to invest in designing ways to have rads up on the top of your cases without having to compromise the sound. The system that the Deep Silence 1 has works great for reducing the noise from the inside while not completely blocking off airflow on the top, and giving you the option to increase airflow when you want it.

I get that, I just think they could try a little bit to make them look nicer. I did use a Fractal case for my moms PC since it is an office PC, I didn't particularly like the "functionality". Could put a front fan in with an HDD or an SSD installed in the front, cable management was a pain, although I am used to working with my air 540, in which you just cram everything in the second compartment lol
