Does the Accelero XTreme IV come with thermal paste?

Lolucoca

It comes with pre-applied MX-4.

I'd kinda advise against this cooler, it doesn't make any contact at all with the VRM, meaning you'll get really high temps on them.

Just no. Compared to the reference cooler, my GTX 980's VRM temps went down from ~74c whilst gaming, to ~46c with the Accelero Xtreme IV. Whilst i was skeptical of the thermal pads being underneath the vrms etc, it's actually better than those little alluminium/copper heatsinks you can get for them.

@OP it comes with paste pre-applied. Also, if you do end up getting one, use a piece of paper to sketch where the thermal pads are covering, so you know where to place the new thermal pads on the rear of the board with that cooler.

And make sure you have enough room to fit it in your top PCI-E slot, as for me the backplate on the Accellero Xtreme IV prevented me from using the top slot with my Noctua NH-D15 installed. I swapped it for an AIO cooler just to fit my gpu back in the top PCI-E slot.

Unless they've changed it with a revision it didn't include any method of contacting the VRM last I knew. So that's news to me.

And yes @OP, it takes up almost 5 slots, so despite what the box says, it's not terribly cossfire/sli compatible.

It uses thermal pads on the back side of the PCB, and the backplate itself is like one large heatsink which absorbs the heat via the thermal pads. It's weird and i was skeptical at first, but it does work quite well.

Then that's not for VRM mate, vrm are on the front of the pcb, if the cooler for them is on the back, then it won't cool them at all. I'm completely baffled how you can get that much lower temperature without active cooling on the vrm, something has to be wrong somewhere.

You put thermal pads on the underside of the vrms (back of the pcb), as well as other components. It does work rather well. As i stated before, with the reference cooler on my GTX 980 i was hitting ~74c on average on the vrms. With the Accelero Xtreme IV i hit ~46c. Whilst gaming / stress testing ofc.

So yes, it does in fact cool the vrm's.
