24 Pin ATX wire mod help.

Im going to sleeve a psu and i have noticed 2 pins have 2 wires running into the 24pin connector. Both one is a thicker gauge and other is thinner, i assume its a signal wire of some sort.

I was wondering if i can remove the double wires and attach it closer to the psu side rather then having to deal with extra wires on the 24pin connector. I can splice it up and solder the thinner gauge wire to the thicker wire and cover it with heatshrink. I know in my mind it will work but i need to be sure 1st. Dont want to mess up this brand new psu.

Note, I have all tools nessary for this job. Crimpers, atx pins, soldering iron etc.

Psu is a thermaltake toughpower 850w gold, semi modular.

Splice away!

I had several of them on my PSU when I sleeved it and I just spliced the thinner wire into the thicker one, close to the PSU end. Haven't had any issues with it.

You should buy new connectors and crimp the 2 wires together to be sure that the wire is thick enough. If you only solder them you could end up with a wire running hot or having more resistance than it should, which could be bad for the psu.
