CPU Intensive Games

Khajiit Dealer

I think it would be nice to make a list of games that are CPU intensive. This could help people building/getting PCs make sure that they are getting the parts they want for the particular games they enjoy.

I'll start:

All Total War games (Attila, Rome 2, Shogun 2, Empire, etc.)

I remember reading Minecraft took it's toll on the CPU, out of all games

Everyone always does. Not always for the best reasons either but that's a different story.

Guild Wars 2. As far as I know, no CPU available to consumers can keep the framerate above 30–40 or so in huge (100+) clusters of players.

Cities: Skylines starts to really chug when your population gets really high.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance with the Forged Alliance Forever mod, the game only uses one core and the trajectory of every shell laser and missile from thousands of units are individually calculated. It can bring my 3570k to it's knee's when it's clocked at 4.8Ghz.

With CS:GO, it's not that it's so CPU-intensive, it's just that it's not very GPU-intensive. With your video card out of it's way, your CPU is usually more likely to determine your maximum framerate.

The issue becomes more noticeable in that particular game (as opposed to other Source engine games) because players often want to run it at absurd framerates that will only end at your system's bottleneck.

You're telling me. My laptop runs CSGO at around 35fps even though my laptop's GPU is decent enough for it.
