Envision an ultimate goal (such as being able to play Through the Fire and Flames, as one extreme example :P), and set yourself more attainable daily, weekly, or monthly goals (Learn to play your first notes. Learn your chords, learn an easy song, learn the first five counts of a song, ETC, ETC). Those little success milestones will keep you going until you're able to reach that ultimate goal.

I saw a really good post somewhere that essentially said relying on motivation is not the way you should be operating. Motivation comes and goes and many times needs to be sought. What you really need to seek is discipline, the ability to persevere even when you have no motivation.

Don't bite off more than you can chew. Perhaps the present isn't an ideal time to learn guitar if you're doubting your ability to allocate time towards it.

You need to set your sights on the prize.  And find exemplars of what you want to be able to mimic.  I will provide that inspiration, from a tune to majestic that you will run from these forums right away and bash your head against a wall until you master these strings.

Go now, creature of infinitesimal skill, go and recreate that tune with your own bare hands, and be reborn.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Whenever anyone asks me why I'm not motivated to do something, I just point them to this little gem:
