Should i sli my 970

p3acefrog

I have a  970 Strix from Asus i am looking into wether or not it would be worth Sli'ing them. I know it can put up numbers on things like fire strike but with my current PC build ( linked in sig) Is it worth it? I am planning on upgrading to 16 gigs of ram very soon so lets pretend i have already done that. Would i see major improvements and is it worth bothering?

On a side note if i do Sli them my power supply is not modular and only has 1 8pin power connector so id have to use the mollusk to 8pin the provide is that going to work or should i get a new PSU as well

This video shows the potential of 970 in sli(not really the purpose of the video but achieves that result anyways).  Its long but a good view.

it's a no brainer just do it and i don't think you should upgrade the ram and using adapters from molex to pcie's is absolutely fine

If you're gaming in 1080p, the GTX 970 is probably the best option. It will max any game except for a few. If you're going to higher resolutions like 1440p, SLI 970 will of course get you better performance. A 700W power supply is recommended for this, if you're overclocking as well.

I am looking to upgrade to 1440p. I have a 620 psu and its not really in my budget right now to get a new psu its down to new psu or 16 gigs of ram. I do not overclock i dont really know how and i know it has a lot of pitfalls i dont need the worry

i would say get a 750watt psu resolution doesn't affect ram usage that much only vram's usage

If you are planing to play on more than 1080p, yes, probably, but other than that, no. You might consider selling your 970 and buying GTX 980 Ti. Has more Vram, for the price of 2 970s. + You wouldn't need to upgrade your power supply, which is money saved right there, since you probably wont sell the 970 for it's original price.

Id recommend that you get a fully modular psu before upgrading to another 970

when i built my new pc i had to reuse my old one I  most definitely want to go full modular but at this time i cant afford to upgrade my psu and ram an di think the ram would be better upgrade as of right now

You won't really see much of a performance increase in games if you get more RAM.

Also our builds are pretty similar (in my signature) :D

Some apps would end up using more RAM because you had more available, but you wouldn't see much of a performance increase in games, if any at all. More like in Chrome with 20 tabs and stuff like that.

Sli your 970s why on earth would anyone sell there 970 to lose money to then spend more to buy a 980ti when you could buy another 970 and have performance better than a single 980ti in most cases? Il be going sli 970 soon, also sli 970s only use 550 watts on an Intel build.

So no you don't need 700 as quoted above.
