Is it possible windows detects my monitors speakers

spwath

I have been troubleshooting this for hours, and I have only two conclusions on why i cant get surround using HDMI pass through.

1:

The receiver is broken

2:

Windows detects my HDMI monitors stereo speakers, not my receiver.

Now, is option two possible?

The sound still plays from the receiver, and in windows the device is labled sony av receiver.

But is it possible windows detects my monitors stereo speakers?

or is option 1 the only conceivable answer?

Thanks

Did you click on Configure and change the settings to 5.1?

There is no option for 5.1 if my monitor is conected to receiver.

I tested with laptop to make sure.

Monitorr pluged into receiver:

only stereo.

As soon as i unplug monitor from receiver:

Stereo,

quadrophonic

5.1

7.1

Hmm??? My monitor shows up as a separate device under Playback Settings.

Does your monitor have settings to disable the speakers?

Well it's gpu-receiver-monitor so it's only one thing.

I was looking, looks like no.

What would solve this is an HDMI to DVI adapter, that would prove that it is, or isnt, the monitor.

I have ordered one, but it wont be here for 14 days because i had 5$ on my amazon and china shipping is slow.

Yeah... that might work. You're doing all this to avoid having a second active desktop that doesn't lead to anything, correct?

Yeah, because i kinda want to figure out a way to have a second monitor.

And also, I dont have a long enough DVI cable, so i cant even use the second desktop method now that I have relocated my computer
