Keep in mind, optimization is really poor atm, and has gotten worse actually last couple of patches. So right now a 16 player match may crush a 970, but it definitely will not in the future.

On the flip side bare in mind they're aiming for 50+ ships with even more simulation and effects in the future ;)

The CPU is the issue at the moment

Mine seems fine at about medium to high settings with a 970 and a 4790k at 1440p. At 16 players with people who have missile fetishes might sometimes require me to go medium. My actually issue is networking and server side if the game gets finicky and crashes the entire lobby of players. So I feel somewhat safe saying that the gpu is not as much the deciding factor.

I would suggest a 980 or two (ti especially) if you can afford it, but you can make do.

Still new, but learning

Maybe, im not entirely sure actually. Because over the last few months for me ive seen a noticeable drop in GPU usage, and also overall FPS, though this is all just speculation its the only thing ive gone off of.

Drop in GPU usage AND FPS?

I usually have afterburners overlay, the games got worse and worse on CPU and I've gone from running on an athlon to a 8350 to 4690k.

But I think this is more to 16 player increase

Yeah its definitely the player increase... which kind of worried me because if CIG wants to have battles involving cap ships its going to get messy if everyone is lagging to hell (at least to an outrageous extent).  But oh well, it'll be fine. CIG will be on top of it once resources are diverted back to AC :P

Considering my i7 4790k and oc'd 290 runs at 720p, low, 30fps, then you need alotta PC.

Could also be that your fps is locked. I believe there was a thread earlier whose OP had the same issue.

Something else may be wrong with your game, or your computer then. Im able to achieve 45FPS + on Very High settings in Vanduul Swarm (though in BR with many people it tanks quite a bit) with an i7 4770k & a 780.

ATM the game is not completely & outrageously taxing, though taxing it is nonetheless, and will continue to be so.

At around level 4 in Vanduul swarm I hit around 24-27 fps, but it hits about 50 when there is one left :P

EDIT- and in social I get around 45 to 30.

In solo swarm I'll hold in the 90-110fps range @ 1440p/max, though my pc is a touch on the overkill side.
