4K TV Choice

AppleHead6

Hello guys, recently I decided to think about purchasing a new 4K resolution TV and I'm between two different products and I can't decide what should buy. The first TV that I want to buy is Samsung UE55JS8500 and the other one is Philips 55PUS7600. Is there something better (at this price) that I should check it out? Please help me and recommend me something that may be better than these two TVs, that I wrote, from your personal use or from your knowledge.

Thank you for all your help, I hope I reply to you soon :D

I'd gravitate towards the Samsung. Their S lineup is very good.

While I dislike Samsung, thus am biased, in general Samsung TVs seem to offer a better quality. However after reading a few reviews, this is what I have to say:

This post says that Samsung has some problems with their apps, Netflix being an important one, as their TV uses their (new) Tizen platform instead of android or proprietary. Another post also mentions light bleed with them. Unlike the Philips TV, this one is also curved, but I don't really know how much of a useful feature/gimmick that is, as cuz it's a TV, you'll be setting quite a distance from it.

I have to say, I love local dimming (it's the next best thing if you can't go OLED), so the Philips-one does stand out on that front. Just think of how glorious the contrast will be. I also reiterate that ambilight is nice.

This website says that the Samsung panel has a 120hz refresh rate, unlike the 100Hz of the Philips, making it better for gaming. Nevermind, the refresh rate might be 120Hz, but the 4K input is still only capable of receiving 60Hz. I dunno about a 1080p input though

If you want to save some money, there's always.. Vizio I think they're called, who make (relatively) cheap but still good-for-the-price TVs.

Another thing is, that while build quality matters, I assume you will be buying it new, and going by the model number of the Philips TV, you are from Europe, and thus will have AT LEAST a 2 year warranty on it. And let's be honest, if a TV survives 2 years without any problems, chances are it will continue to do so for a few more years.

Thanks man I appreciate that you spent time to help me out :D I understood what you are trying to say and you helped me a lot :) Thanks again...!! But I wanna ask for another TV that I saw recently and it is the Sony KD-55X8505C. I've read many articles and compared it to the other two TVs that I mentioned before but I didn't come through something and I see that you are a tech guy so why not take your opinion too :D I will appreciate once again if you reply to me. Thanks again.

P.S. : I also saw the LG 55UF950V and I'm in love with this TV so maybe I'll grab this one but if you have time and will, let me know your thoughts about this LG TV.

Sorry, like I mentioned in my status I had problems with my car and had to unexpectedly stay in Frankfurt for a few days while it was getting repaired. (600€ to replace an alternator belt and tensioner, fml)

First of all, I'll admit I'm somewhat biased towards Sony because I, well, simply like their brand & design and am heavily invested in their PlayStation ecosystem. Now that's out of the way, I have to say LG's webOS interface looks glorious, at least from what I've seen on youtube and heard other people say.

I guess it depends on what you're going to use the TV for. It it's only going to be movies, I think I'll suggest getting the LG model, as it in general seems to be a better option for that, with a more user friendly interface, better picture quality and a nicer and more ergonomic remote.

If you plan to game on it, however, I will suggest getting the Sony TV, as one of the sources mentions that the LG one has far too much input lag to play games.

Both of them have contrast/black-level problems, so they're somewhat equal on that front, which is why I think the decision should be based on their extra features and not picture quality.

Sources for LG TV: 1 & 2

Sources for Sony TV: 1 & 2

I would suggest reading through the sources yourself and comparing/noting the features you (dis)like, so come to a final decision.

4К or 1080p doesn't matter- HDMI 2.0 is capable to only 60Hz...

I'm sorry for your car and your money... but thanks once again for your interest, I'll see the sources you posted and I'm gonna make this tough decision :D Thanks again man I appreciate it...!!

I think that I'll go with the Sony one because it's cheaper and the differences are few and also I'm a Sony-guy so why not grab one Sony KD-55X8505C ^_^

Thanks again.

I recently got the panasonic 40cx680b, it's an outstanding 4K panel with firefox OS, which I've found far nicer to use than LG and samsungs attempts at a smart OS, but not quite as app filled as android TV on the latest sony TVs. I got the 40" version, but there are different sizes. They have local dimming, 3 HDMI ports and USB ports as well, and allow mobile streaming without the need for a chromecast etc. Colour Reproduction is good, with nice bright and clear colours and contrast, but when viewing non HD content it does add a bit of noise to the image, but upscales well on HD footage.
