Laptop HDD at 100% constantly, should I replace or get a SSD?

c_marriott

The laptop I planned to use for school has a failing HDD (I think) so this means its slowing it down, it has an i3 and 6GB RAM so I want to make the most of it.

Should I get a 120GB/240GB (IF i can get one off eBay) or a 1TB HDD.

I will probably save most documents on a USB stick or on Google drive so I won't need a lot technically but I will need to install software like 2D Design, Sketch-up, Photoshop and maybe a couple of games.

Will I be better off with a HDD or SSD?

Also, will a SSD fit securely in the place of the old HDD?

it depends on how much storage you need. if you don't need more than 120GB, then for sure, get an ssd. the performance gains are astronomical.

An SSD will help to boost the productivity.

You will face no problems when installing SSD. It's just as same form factor as 2.5" HDD.

Install HD Tune and check in Health tab. If you see something bad, Consider replacing.

wrong not all laptops fit all ssd,s   uve got special laptop ssds aswell ( the laptops that dont fit the standard ssd size will require a thinner ssd ) xD

while 95-99% of the time all ssds might fit... its not always xD

I only want to spend about £50 on it so I can't get much more than 120gb unless it's second hand or something

The laptop HDD is 2.5" so surely it'll fit?

just check if u got abit of headroom for a thicker hdd/ssd ( just by a lil ) ... if everything is supertight u might need a laptop ssd...

if u got abit of headroom for thickness... ur fine with a normal ssd

infact it looks like uve got the thinner version

cant 100% ensure u that a standard ssd will fit proper

id say try it out with a normal ssd see if it fits ( if the backplate goes on normally it fits ), if it doesnt fit just replace it for a thin / laptop ssd... if u need to order online id start looking at a laptop ssd/thinner ssd

if the backplate of the laptop has headroom it should fit a normal ssd tho
