2 brands of ram in 1 pc

massimojo

my G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB is experiencing technical difficulties so i decided to RMA it.

witch will leave me with no ram so i'll buy some new ram.

but the G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB is twise the price of Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1600C9.

if i buy the Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1600C9 or  similar ddr3 8g ram

will the work together when i get my g skills back ?

Once they all run at the same frequency, latency and voltage it should work without a problem and note that the lower frequency will be the dominant one which means all other ram sticks, if they have a higher frequency, will set its frequency to the slower one.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

dont ever mix 2 brands of ram together because chips have different density and they always have different secondary timings and tetriary timings

only mix 2 kinds of ram if their both the same model number but not matching the mhz

unstable ram leads to os corruption(and data corruption) and mixing 2 different chips of ram ( example samsung chips mixed with psc ) instability is almost guaranteed ... even if u pass memtest86 and prime95 custom...

the 1866kit is PSC btw , corsair vengeance 1600c9 kit is samsung

Just gonna say, I have not experienced any issues with running Corsair Vengeance and Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP DIMMs in the same board together without any issue.

Similarly with my laptop; it has been running with its manufacturer-included 8GB SODIMM and a HyperX SODIMM as well problem-free.

So basically, it's perfectly fine to do so. You don't need to be too concerned.

DAYTONA

MOTHERBOARD - ASUS PRIME X370-PRO

GRAPHICS CARD - EVGA NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 980Ti SC+ ACX 2.0 w/ BACKPLATE
BOOT and PROGRAMS - CORSAIR MP600 1TB

corsair vengeance and ballistix sport vlp are both samsung chips :P

probably the same on the other 2 kits... it can work if u have 2 samsung kits but even if it seems stable u can still get instability ( program not responding ect(data corruption ect) = from ram )

u might have had the luck of having 2 samsung chips together in both cases but never mix different chips like psc with samsung ect  only go psc with psc and samsung with samsung and hynix with hynix, not hynix with samsung or w/e

They'll run at the highest JEDEC profile in SPD for the slowest kit, which would be 1600 MHz CL11 or 1333 MHz CL9
