Our Folding At Home Rank

so I checked our stats as a team and we are 16th in the world. that's amazing B) :D:D

But even though it's amazing considering how long we've been around I can't help but want more. so if everyone who sees this can join even using the chrome folding client it would be very much appreciated and it would help us a ton. thanks

My folding rig is sitting here, just waiting to fire back up. Alas, it's still summer in the UK and it would cook me alive in my room if I did. Roll on winter, that's what I say!

To be honest, iam a bit disappointed. I can only fold with my dualcore (Pentium G3258) as my graphics card is bad (currently 34.000 points). After one month folding iam rank 280.000 of 1.7 million. Is is slowing really down with my progress but I really thought more people would fold.

Thanks :) The whole rig came about when I got the Xeon for an absolute steal on Ebay. Meant I could afford the other components. Also makes a great Plex server...and a radiator in the winter ;)

I'm all about running components warm to heat the room. also getting a deal on a xeon is like winning the lottery (I love server cpus)

I feel you. I have the same cpu and with the folding client on ubuntu I was getting about 6-8 thousand ppd a day but it actually helped me and hey, a little is better than nothing. also I'msure there could be an office computer or your mum's work computer that could fold on chrome and give you a small boost. maybe get your friends to fold with your id so you get something more from there?

Haha, it just makes sense! I'm a student, and I don't pay for electricity so it keep my room toasty warm. As do I- its a shame more people aren't aware of them, as they can offer much better price:performance if you are the right kind of person (doesn't want to oc, has discrete graphics).

MY i7 4930K is truly putting up with some abuse. I don't want to call it an engineering sample outright, but the Intel PM who gave it to me seemed to know something I didn't. It's been folding consistently on 10/12 cores (HT enabled) at 4.7GHz like a boss even before I started adding my 780 to the mix. I only started folding this last month, so when the power bill comes by mail in a few weeks, I will find out wether this is a good use of my energy, or a horror story waiting to happen.

I have a 1000W PSU, and know I am using all 130W for my CPU to keep this up (if not breaching it's TDP), and at least 400W on the GPU due to 18h/day use at maximum factory OC 1.11GHz. Room easily rises to 90'F if the a/c isn't turned on...which would also lead to higher power bills. This may be a lose/lose for me, but at least students and science are benefiting, eh? (wonder if I can write off my power bill as a charitable donation) ;P

On the point of topic, however, I am folding under my username, and seem to finally (finally) be asymptoting off as I approach the numbers less and less populated by inactive folders. I used to rise by over 500 positions in a day, now scarcely over 100. While this is good, as I am getting a more accurate picture of my rank in the entire team (and project), It makes me even MORE dedicated to pushing my PPD!

Yeah but there have been folding teams for a LOT longer than LTT forum has existed.

Not everyone can be first.  Be proud of what you have accomplished against your problems not your accomplishments against other people.

I acknowledge that. I just want more people to contribute to this amazing project and in the mean time helo our ranking. Btw we are not much off from the team above us

Oh god, that's my favorite CPU but even my Q6600 with the chrome client takes about 15min to complete a small WU, my 6300 takes 3... :(

So I am going to be building a new system for folding to put along with my current ones (in the signature) It is only going to be a Core 2 Duo E8400 in the meantime but going to pick up a Xeon X3220 possibly Wednesday. As for GPU folding I have nothing to offer in that department currently except my GT 630 that I just retired from that to use as a Phys X card in my main.

I just want to point out one thing. Folding@home was launched in 2000, 15, nearly 16 years ago.

Our team has been around for... 2 years? yeah... we are pretty fresh on the market, our position

is pretty amazing and it is always shooting upward.

It is amazing for sure :D seeing I don't use my computer to play video games much if any folding gives me an excuse to have a semi decent system :P

for gpu I'd recomend a 750 or 750 ti if you just want to start out. and if you want higher end go with a 970. the gt630 is not worth it imo. it is really slow and you might actually see a decrease in performance. but still I encourage you to try it.
