Fallout 3 on windows 10 no sound.

tony.

Hey so excited for fallout 4 couldn't wait. one problem after another though with fallout 3. i5 and 960 so obviously not the specs. first it was freezing nonstop so I did some .ini edit to set to limit of 2 cores (trusted solution rather than unlimited cores max at 2). shortly after I ran into an unrelated sound problem though; I could only hear subtle background music nothing else. updated all sound drivers and codecs and the sound worked only for a couple of hours. now silent again. very specific problem I know but any help appreciated. if not ill just wait until fallout 4.

This might sound obvious and you have probably already tried it but try running Fallout 3 in compatibility mode and as an administrator.

1. Locate the Fallout3.exe application file for the game. ...

2. Right-click on the Fallout3.exe application file and select Properties.

3. Click on the Compatibility tab. ...

4. Check the box Run this program in compatibility mode.

5. Choose Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the drop-down menu.

6. Tick "Run as an administrator"

7. Click Apply

Please keep me updated.

dude I'm surprised those were your only issues... its fallout 3. You've got to do some voodoo magic shit and sacrifice a couple virgins to appease the gods in order to get that it to work.

I have the game running in compatibility mode (Windows Vista) and as admin, and it works perfectly...as far as Fallout 3 is concerned at least; it did crash a few hours into the game, but it still works fine.

Tried running in compat-mode yet?

You have to summon Nyarlathotep just in the vague hope of getting it to work.

Still not as bad as the original Mass Effect if you have an AMD CPU...

Oh man, don't remind me...

Playing that bit was hell and a half.

Which is somewhat ironic, given how that mission takes place on a planet that is nothing but snow.

hey sorry I'm late getting back but windows 10 is a bit different than last few versions it seems. I just right clicked and selected compatibility check. changed something instantly and works with sound. if I restart and do not do compatibility fix no sound. thanks for help it was simple this time.
