how's this HTPC?

Guest Johnny5g

cooler is overkill imo, just stick with good ol' hyper212, for a sacrifice of a bit of performance

do u really need a dedicated GPU?

No the Shadowrock LP is great for what it is.

Either get a higher end gpu or don't get one at all.

Good.

Meh GPU, but IDK your use.

Make sure there is room on both sides of case.

Mine didnt, about 1/2 inch on each side, got a bit toasty as expected, but you should be fine with adequite space.

Now, for that case, you may want modular PSU, but I made it work with non modular.

it won't fitt

Your  current cooler will, the suggested one WILL NOT, however they realised their mistakes.

Its a nice build, go ahead gpu is a LITTLE redundant however... either go bigger or dont bother though.

Its the gpu not the brand thats the problem, spend the extra $40-50 and get a 260 or 360

That doesnt make a difference, the GPU itself is stupidly slow. Imo stick with igpu unless you need something better in the future like a 750 or even 760 or something

You dont really need the r7 240. Video watching is fine on integrated graphics

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Yeah, I was gonna say...

HTPCs can easily get away with on-board graphics, which the Pentium G3258 has.

Something like this would probably be more ideal.

DAYTONA

PROCESSOR - AMD RYZEN 7 3700X
MOTHERBOARD - ASUS PRIME X370-PRO
RAM - 32GB (4x8GB) CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX DDR4-2400
CPU COOLING - NOCTUA NH-D14
GRAPHICS CARD - EVGA NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 980Ti SC+ ACX 2.0 w/ BACKPLATE
BOOT and PROGRAMS - CORSAIR MP600 1TB
GAMES and FILES - TOSHIBA 2TB
INTERNAL BACKUP - WESTERN DIGITAL GREEN 4TB
POWER SUPPLY - CORSAIR RM850i
CASE - CORSAIR OBSIDIAN 750D
