Best value GPU

ScaryFatKidGT

So heres my build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XCXyzy I wanted a 980ti but I don't got money for dat sheet lol

So 970 is a good deal at $340ish but the R9 390 is better for $320ish BUT R9 290's are only around $250 and R9 290x's are $300 - $320ish soooooooo

R9 380 vs 290 and R9 390 vs 290x is I guess my question. They all have 4GB of V ram min so better than the 970 there.

A 970 will suit you better since that CX600 is shit.

What res are you playing at.

1080p Panny Plasma for now eventually getting a 1440 25 or 27" monitor preferable free or g-sync

Lol it was $36.99 couldn't pass it up seeing all these builds with $50 CX430's and 500's

No don't get your graphics card based on what psu you have. Change the psu evga usually has good power supplys at that price range check some of those out.

I'd wait till nvidia advertises their dx12 drivers because you never know they 970 could be at the same perfoemance of a Fury x who knows.

Doesn't sound like OP will "pass it up" and no try not bank on drivers. DX12 is a low level API and requires very little of the gpu driver. Any problems with DX12 Nvidia has now will probably be fixed in the next gen gpus.

You don't think nvidia would optimize their existing gpus for dx12?

They would but there's little they can do since the architecture is different. Its still too early to tell what they will or will not do now, those are only our suspicions.

Not sure. DX12 games ain't coming so soon. Nvidia fans would have already gotten their pascal cards by then.

Soooooooooo 290X vs 390? Like I know the 290X is more powerful but is the DX12, more memory, newer card and more production time worth it? I've found a refub 290X for $250...

CX is bad if your ambient room temp is high...

Over 40degrees C, that is when the CX series struggle. If you can keep things around 20C, then it will hold up.

Hell i know someone with a CX600 that lives in a place where it hits 35C during summer.... the CX was fine.

I think I'm going to grab this 290X, will I be able to OC the memory to 6Gbps?

Start a new thread but I'm in the same spot and I think I'm going to get the 390. But start a new thread to get more ppls input

Whys that?

These are the card's I'm thinking about

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150723

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8869860

or a GB wind force 290x for $269

or a 380 for $329

Well firstly, get the 290x over the 290. And secondly you will have less of an issue cooling the 390. Also it's newer so it will last longer. Plus, the extra vram might not be useful now, but may be later down the road.

opps wrong link lol, there was a link to an asus 290x here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121922R&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814121922R&gclid=COPo8Zyb5scCFQataQodWSUMSQ&gclsrc=aw.ds doesn't look like the fancy one tho just a regular pcb with asus' cooler on it

For one its newer, two less heat and 3 it's actually better, 290x is on par with a 970 and the 390 is a small margin better.

All 4 are 275W TDP I have heard that the 300's cool better but it can't be by much...

Also 290=390 and the 290x=390x I know the 300's are a little but faster but I don't believe nor have I seen a 390 approaching anywhere near the performance of the 290x. An extra $100+ doesn't seem with it for a little higher clocked memory and a little higher core clocks that an aftermarket 290/x would be at anyway.

The 290x does not perform like a 390x the 390x is on par with a 980, the 780ti is better than the 290x, trust me the 390 is better than a 290x.

390 !

I guess you guys are right about the 390 not only being better than the 290 but better than the 290x, I guess I miss understood some of the reviews, I don't get how a little clock increase and a little vram speed makes that big of difference(Luke really undersells the 390x)? However the AMD cards still trade way to many blows with the 970 for me to wrap my head around, even slotting between the 2 390's tested sometimes. Are these OCed or stock numbers for the tested GPU's?
