Coil whine from GPU going through Audio Interface speakers?

Hello,

Whenever a launch a graphics-intensive program (ie a game), I can hear the coil whine from my 280X through my speaker which I have plugged in to my Audio Interface with an XLR cable. My Audio interface is connected to my PC via firewire using a firewire PCI card connected to the motherboard. The GPU and the card are far apart yet I can still hear the coil whine. Can anyone please help?

SYSTEM:

CPU: Intel i7 4790K @4.5Ghz

GPU: Powercolor AMD Readeon R9 280X 3GB PowerDuo

MOBO: msi Z97 PCt mate

PSU: Corsair VS650

Audio Interface: Focusrite Saffire Pro 14

PS I cant hear the coil whine through the headphones out

Through the headphone out of what? Out of your audio interface or your mobo?

Only through my speaker. There is some sound that I can hear from the GPU but it is almost unnoticeable.

You said that you were using XLR for you connections to the speakers. Is that true all the way through (e.g. Are both ends of the cable xlr/balanced trs?)

Actually, I didn't think that was an important detail so I just said XLR- its actually XLR on one end and 6.35mm jack on the other (I think that is what you mean when you said 'Balanced trs'?).

It's balanced if the 6.35 jack has 3 poles. Does it?

Uh, that's not possible.

I would pull up some images to clarify, but on mobile.

It might be causing a ground loop then, since you're going from a balanced connection to an unbalanced one. Not entirely sure though. There are a few people here that would probably know better than I... @SSL, wanna chime in on this?

Probably not a ground loop if it is intermittent.

I would recommend juggling the expansion cards around, if at all possible. Try to find an arrangement that minimizes the interference. Also, make sure that audio interconnects and power/video/audio cables do not cross or pass near each other.

Power has been out all day, otherwise I would've probably responded sooner.
