Windows 10, Annoying Updates

I have Windows 10 Pro on my laptop, and it's using a somewhat old hard drive that's not very fast.  This isn't too much of an issue, but it can take a pretty long time to update.

Now, at the moment I have windows 10 set to defer updates, set to metered connection, and set to notify me when to schedule restarts.  But even with these settings Windows still likes to update whenever it pleases and it does it at very inconvenient times.

Is there anything else I can do to restrict the automatic update?  Or should I just switch back to Windows 8.1 to avoid the issue all together (which I wouldn't mind since Windows 10 wasn't that much of an improvement to my overall experience)

Try this. gpedit.msc method.

It'll work only on Windows 10 Pro, It is good that you've got Windows 10 Pro.

Intersting

I'll probably try it out when I have some free time and report back on whether it works or not.

Okay.

It'll work for sure.

But you don't get to select the options in Windows Update panel directly.

Instead it'll look like this.

The options will be hidden.

But it gets the job done.

Post back with results.

simple... just disabled windows update service > control panel > administrative tools > services > look for windows update > rightclick properties > set to disabled and apply/ok + reboot

that way it will be permanently disabled until u enable it again
