Game dev is hard, if you are indie dev you can find yourself low on founds and still work to do to release game or alpha release etc...

Since you are active in programming and other game related stuff, you are well on your way, keep it up.

If you decide to go Med School, which I would suggest if that's where your heart is... you're going to be doing that damn near 24/7 and nothing else. It requires a lot of dedication and focus. You'll probably be able to do the game dev after Med School and you're done with your internship.

Edit: Med School as in Dr? Or professional training to become a Paramedic? If the latter, you can do your game dev. at the same time.

Take it from a medic- I get up at 6 and get to bed at around 12. In the day I get maybe two hours of free time, most which I use eating and catching up on emails. It's incredibly hard work, and gives little time for outside hobbies, but can be incredibly rewarding. One thing it isn't, is a fall back plan. It just takes up too much time to be something you might never use. However, if you are interesting in becoming a paramedic, I know that there are alternative ways to achieve this.

My only piece of advice is to go with what you love. It will take up so much of the rest of your life that you can't afford not to do something you really enjoy. That way, you get the best out of it :)
