Anti Spyware and Anti-virus?

Guest

Hey, so I was wondering, do you need an anti spyware program if you already have an anti virus? I also have malware bytes, that should top it off for keeping my pc safe on the software side of things right?

yes, they serve 2 completely different purposes. While they do have some overlap, if you don't have both you are leaving yourself open.

wait...so we have anti-virus, anti-malware AND anti-spyware now?

I've had McAfee, Kaspersky, and now Avast. and Kaspersky was by far the most paranoid it suspected EVERYTHING. Every single .exe file, and it flat-out wouldn't let me play War thunder because the server's are in Russia. while the other 2 were/have been fairly painless.

I use Avast! for antivirus and spybot for spyware. Malware bytes is the most popular anti-spyware program from the people I have asked.

Anti-malware and anti-spyware generally server the same purpose. With anti-malware programs usually capable of finding some other forms of malicious codes as well.

hmm, I never used the stuff for long, maybe I'll try some anti-malware out, trouble I have with anti malware is, I don't want it holding my hand all the time, I just want to use it to scan a file every now and again, or run a full scan.

I think AVG is good. Just disable the web/internet protection.

I think it would be down to personal preference as I have a paid version (that someone else is paying for) doing all of my anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware, I leave it running passively in the background, but I mostly just scan anything I I download that I think could potentially be sketchy. Using common sense as my primary antivirus.

I use Nod32 with Malwarebytes. It's good to have Malwarebytes with your preferred anti-virus.
