Midrange PC vs console?

Go to solution Solved by siberiansteel11,

The PC would be better. the ps4 basically has a an old 7870 performance ( it doesn't really have the 7870 inside) So the GTX 960 would be the better option. if you look at it the 7870 is on Par with the GTX 660 or 660Ti and the gtx 960 is on par with the GTX 680 (base on benchmarks) so I guess you could see why the gtx 960(PC) is better than the ps4 (7870 performance)

So my current build is a budget gaming rig with an fx6300 @ 4.1ghz, Gigabyte g1 gaming gtx 960 2gb running a pretty high OC, and 8gb of RAM.

I was wondering if you guys think I'll be able to run most games at higher settings than the ps4 can run? I've been searching forums for a while and haven't found any real answers

Definitely. the 960 can run most games at ultra 60 FPS while the consoles struggle with 1080p medium settings at 30 FPS

The 960 performs better than a 7870 which is essentially what is in the PS4 GPU wise.

A 960 would do better than a console

Even if it was only as powerful as a PS4, you would still have the advantage of being able to decide for yourself whether you want the games to look better or run better. PS4 games are locked to the framerate, resolution, and visual quality they're locked to. That alone makes it kind of hard for a PC to actually seem "worse."

Alright, cool thanks for the feedback! so now that i can be sure the gpu is better than a console, what about the fx6300? I know this cpu is not the best

I imagine for the 960, in most games it'll be fine.

It's not the best, but it's certainly adequate. A GTX 960 is not a super high-end video card, either, so it's not like you'll often have a lot of untapped potential.

Expect more trouble in games like Cities: Skylines with a high population, or in some MMOs. Most games will usually remain GPU-bound with a 960 at 1080p.

an i3 4th gen is better (for gaming)
