AMD Motherboard w/ SLI Capability?

My friend isn't great with computers. He bought a $500 "gaming" PC a year or so ago. He wants to upgrade his Nvidia 600 series GPU which means he has to upgrade a lot of other components. I offered to help since I know more about PCs.  Every part I picked is compatible except the motherboard (ASUS M5A99FX PRO) doesn't support SLI Nvidia GPUs, it only supports crossfire on AMD GPUs.

 

I wanted to know if the nice people on this forum could help me find a motherboard that can SLI Nvidia GPUs, (gtx 960s) with an AMD processor, and the option for at least 16GB of space for RAM. You're help would be very much appreciated. :)

There might not be any AMD SLI capable motherboards because of the bottlenecking issues that AMD CPUs can cause because of powerful nvidia GPUs, this might totally be wrong and I can be wrong but this is what I'm assuming since AMD CPUs aren't powerful enough to keep up in most CPU intensive games.

But then again SLI functionality can be expensive for motherboard manufacturers that they just don't bother making it possible except on higher end motherboards.

This is my input on it. But I'm sure that there are some SLI capable motherboards out there for AMD.

How about upgrading your CPU instead upgrading a dead platform....

If your that serious about AM3+, then a 990FXA-UD3/5

The Pro non R2.0 doesn't support SLI, but the R2.0 does. 

If you want something better than a 990FXA then Sabortooth 990FX. 

Really pointless to buy Formula Z unless you are crazy balls about overclocking the AM3+ chip.

AMD 990FX Chipset boards have more PCIE lanes than Z97/Z170, so it can support up to 3 or 4 way SLI because it has 40 PCIE lanes.

It's usually up to the board manufacture to implement SLI support or not.

This post just spews bias. Yes I will agree that AMD cpus are worse than Intel ones for gaming but that doesn't mean they aren't capable. Jeez.

I'm no being bias I'm being truthful, it's a horrible idea to SLI on an AMD platform because of that sole reason, if you want to go for it p, it's your money being wasted.

also, buy a single 970. Linus himself said that. With a 970 you will have 4gb of usable vram compared to the 960 sli's 2gb

MSI 970 Gaming and 990FX Gaming should both have it but they are not the best OCer boards. :) (also if he is going for 4K its a good idea to SLI!)

They are not bad enough that it should deter anyone from sli-ing on the AMD platform. It is pure fooey.

We aren't talking about sli in general. We are talking about sli-ing on the AMD platform.
