I've been looking recently to get/build a computer on the cheap with a Q6600 and 4 or 8GB of RAM and throw an old graphics card in there. Maybe use it for stuff or maybe just benchmarks and to see how well it can run games, on what settings etcetera.

Sig under construction.

Well my primary set of spare parts is a q6600

And I have a huge pile of ddr2

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

That motherboard will likely not support a q6600. While the LGA775 socket has been sold for a long time there have been many chipsets for it with each their own CPU compatibility list.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

I wouldn't get this PC for that man. I wouldn't stretch this beyond being a very, very basic HTPC...

On eBay UK there are some compelling deals for a full PC that can probably be trusted (apart from the power supply) with a Q6600 and a working motherboard and some DDR2 - I'm thinking about getting something like that and putting it into a decent case with a good PSU.

I think I could have some fun with some hardware like that but I don't know.

how would this compare to a raspberry pi?

I'd say it's significantly more powerful.

You can't use a Q6600 with the 945G chipset. Max supported ram is 4 GB.

Pay for shipping and you can have the motherboards, cpus and heatsinks. Keep in mind that they arent standard atx motherboards.

I could actually use this. I have a spare Q6600 and mATX case kickin' around. Only ATX board for it tho :^(

I have yet to test if the board works.

If it does and I end up buying this, sure.

i945G should support 800MHz FSB Conroe (65nm Core) CPUs like the Pentium E2200 etc however the problem is the crappy board there probably doesn't have much available for it in terms of BIOS updates etc.

With the Pentium 4 its too slow to do much and they are quite power hungry so you would ideally not want to leave it running as a server.
