@nicklmg is there any reason that the vessel videos air at such a later time than the youtube videos?

also i think that the regular pebble is much more relevant because of its lower price

The way I see them, smart watches are only good for tinkering with, not actually for finding any convenience.

So with its platform agnosticism and accomodation for hardware mods in the form of straps, the Pebble seems like the clearly better choice.

Vessel videos go up around midnight (usually a touch earlier). That's our release time.

The forum was always intended to be the preview/sneak peek before the video goes live, which is what it still is now.

Vessel videos are not late (usually) :P

I think the pebble time steel is the version that's going to have the display closer to the glass, maybe it's hard to do or something.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

My issues are its looks... I really hate its aesthetics, the massive bezels, tiny screen, cheap overall appearance

For me a smartwatch still needs to be an attractive time peace, not something from radioshack in 1990

It could be a paperweight and still do its job better than an apple watch to be honest.

Linus' review of the Apple watch was pretty positive tbh

Neither are perfect though, I think smartwatches need a LOT more work, in every area, aesthetics, performance and battery etc

I think Linus tried hard to not completely destroy it, but it's still at the very bottom of his list when it comes to smartwatches (he even says it in this video, where he'd pick the pebble over the apple watch easily). And aside from that, it has all the problems that a device like a smartwatch should not have: terrible battery life, no cross device support, no useful physical buttons, you need to shake your arm to see the time, it's expensive in spite of all these defects. It's exactly like the galaxy gear, except for some reason that didn't sell well (it wasn't apple, was it?).

It also has some positives, like a great design, lovely display, some pretty powerful apps, it has physical buttons?, it has force touch which is a useful features IMO, and I like the crown, since its hard to pinch and touch such a small display, so secondary touch functions are great

Cross platform could be levelled at every smart watch except the pebble so not a specific negative , its only $100 more than other devices so its hardly THAT expensive

The "gesture for the time" I agree is dumb - but an unfortunately limitation for the battery life, not sure how else they could do it, the Pebble is fine because its E-Ink

Yes and no. Android wear smartwatches can connect to any android device, from multiple brands. The apple watch can only connect to a handful of devices, from the same brand, which has about 20% of the market. I'd still much rather have the pebble than the apple watch - if I were to buy an iphone, which I strongly doubt is ever going to happen. And even if it's not a specific negative, it's not any of these negatives alone that breaks it completely (aside maybe from battery life), but rather their sum.

Well thats a silly thing to say :P Android is a specific platform.. regardless of the hardware brand its still the same OS, and I cant connect it to anything other than another Android device.. so they are not cross compatible at all outside of their own eco system

I think pretty much only the Pebble is cross compatible but again its still not perfect IMO, my biggest gripe with the Time is that it looks like a childs toy

The Pebble time is £180, and I assume the Steel version will be like £300 - the same price as the Apple watch here in the UK.. so as far as price goes, not that different really

I am still waiting on something genuinely amazing to come out, the Apple watch is optimistic, and I think a fantastic first attempt as far as the design and ideas go.. with too many niggles and issues to make it "must have" - more.. an expensive toy (I have no issue with that myself)

The Pebble time, ... just.. is not that desirable, even if it does lots of things right... its a bit too "casio calulator watch" rather than "fasionable and cool with great features"

this is all my own opinion of course,

Would you rather buy a casio calculator that looks meh or a steel, professional looking abacus for almost twice the price? Assuming you need to get something done of course.
