Digital Games vs Disc Games

SquaredPit5

There are games coming out this Fall that I want to get. I can't figure out to get digital or a physical copy of the game. Because someone I know his Xbox 360 digital game is corrupted and now he can't play his game. So is digital copies ok or should I get physical copies?

Thank you

It's far more likely that you're going to scratch a disc than corrupt a digital copy. Also, if it's a downloaded copy, you should be able to re-download the files to fix it if it does get corrupted.

I haven't used physical media in years, and I much prefer not having to deal with it.

A digital corrupted game can be removed and re-downloaded, that's the fix, unless its corrupted for everyone then that's the maker's fault apart from that physical copies can scratch and those have no real solution if its past refund time.

I take good care of the physical copies of games I already have and they really don't have scratches on them.

Even if you're extremely careful, accidents happen. With downloaded digital copies, you can just re-download the files to fix it.

Digital is the way to go. However, Physical copies are cool when/if you get a cool collector's edition you may want. (like the Fallout 4 Pipboy thing, or COD with a quadcopter or whatever)

Physical is also good on console if you know that you are going to want to sell the game after you finish playing it, but if you intend on keeping the game forever, digital is best because that way you don't have to fumble with discs.

When in doubt, re-format.

DISC > U CAN TOUCH IT AND LICK IT AND TAKE IT TO BED AND TAKE IT OUT FOR DINNER

DIGITAL > U CAN ONLY LOOK AT THE DIGITAL PICTURE(and never be able to touch it, ud be touching ur monitor instead... licking ur monitor not recommended)

(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) disc will always be superior to digital purchases when it comes to collecting

I've had more bullshit dealing with account info, logins, and servers than I've ever had with discs.

Digital is fine on PC but for consoles it's really half-assed. Especially with Nintendo.

Git Gud.

Digital all the way. So much easier and you don't have to keep swapping discs in your console when you want to play another game. Also, in general it's a blessing to not have to store all the discs somewhere (unless that's your thing).

For me to buy a game on disc now it has to be 1) Not available digitally 2) Much cheaper than the digital version

@SquaredPit5

You can re-sell physical media whenever you want.

1) When you become bored of the game.

2) When you beat the game.

3) When your console dies.

Even a few dollars on a game sale is more than tossing away a console and all the DLC that is attached to it.

You can also let your friends borrow your physical media.  And you can borrow theirs if they follow the same philosophy.

Why not just get the physical versions (for consoles not PC)? You can get the physical disks really cheap on console off eBay instead of paying $100 for a brand new digital copy of a game.

does it matter nowdays for functionality?

even with physical you still have to updates or sometimes redownload whole game because the data in-disc outdated, most of time also because multiplayer.

and you still don't own that game despite having physical form, specially if the game is tied with your account.

don't build your knowledge based on misinformation, data corrupt happens, hardware failure happens, bad games happen, but it can be fix.

I'm not saying you can't go physical, I know some people so iffy about it

but as a person who have to import all these stuff, the last legit physical games for me was from SNES, and I have to pay the reseller for importing fee.

With digital, I don't have to deal with that.

and since bad things happens, that's why so much updates going on, and as a consumer it is a good thing to get things fix immediately (which can be only obtain with digital distribution)

I think like all media that's making the transition to digital it depends. This is where I sit:

Print (books, news):

Digital unless it's shelf-worthy or a gift

Video:

If it's free to stream or on Netflix? Digital. I'm not going to bother getting the disk if Netflix has it. If it's not or if I really like it? Disks. iTunes has crappy DRM so if I'm paying for it it's easier to just get the disk. Especially for standard def, ripping DVDs is quicker than stripping DRM from an iTunes copy.

Music:

If I just want to give it a listen? Spotify or youtube. If I am really into it? I'll get the CD. You can rip CDs so why not?

Games:

If there's an option then I'll go for whatever is cheaper. Unless it's a game that I know I'm going to repeatedly come back to, in which case I'll go digital

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

even with physical you still have to updates or sometimes redownload whole game because

this, I fucking hate this - if physical media contained the entire game I would happily just get the disc

But whats the point when you are forced to download more files before you can play it... the disc is useless, in 20 years when the servers are shut down you will never be able to play the game on the disc
