-snip-

GB, GBC, GBA: Visual Boy Advance.

DS: DeSuMe

GameCube and Wii: Dolphin

NES: VirtuaNES works decent

N64: Project64

PS2: PSX2 I think..

Not sure about the rest.

VisualBoy Advance is one I use quite a bit and can recommend.

EDIT: VBA also support Xbox 360 controllers or PS3 controllers emulated as Xbox 360 controllers

There aren't any 360 emulators and any you find are just fakes trying to install malware

true, same for PS3. They are working on something, but you shouldn't download anything now.

the ones i use:

gameboy - visual boy advance (VBA-L if your co-workers also have lots of wasted time)

wii & gamecube - dolphin (requires a pretty good computer)

PS1 - ePSXe (sort of hit and miss if it works or not, kinda dodgy at times)

PS2 - PCSX2 (requires a decent pc, but if set right will run games better than the original console...)

---

this said, you should WORK at work, unless if you have some "sit on this desk and pretty much do nothing but wait" job. (security, tech support, etc.)

There is one for PS3, except it requires insane hardware and doesnt support many games, sadly :(

My current build - Ever Changing.

Yeah, they were able to run stuff like Terraria and menus on Watch_Dogs, but they are not done yet

Don't be mistaken, since you saay "at work" that some of those emulators require some serious horsepower. Especially emulators like Dolphin, you need atleast an overclocked core i5 (>sandy) to run games stutterfree.

DeSuMe and Dolphin are what I use mainly (and extensively) both work great. I doubt a work computer will be able to handle Wii games through an emulator though.

I run dolphin at least 60 fps even with plugins to convert a 360 pad to motion plus controls with just a  fx 6300 stock clock so you definitely don't need an i5 but then again I still doubt it can be run on a standard work pc

No, you don't play Metroid Prime flawlessly on a stock 6300. I barely manage it on my 4.0ghz 4670K.

This seems like a reasonable list.

What are you looking for with your emulator?

Accuracy or do you just want it to work?

Speedrunning is a good example on what emulators to use.

Even though emulating within the speedrunning community is frowned upon there are a list which SRL (SpeedRunsLive) accepts for their races, a list based on accuracy as to make it fair for those playing on actual hardware.

Their current list is the following:

Can I play on an emulator?

If the emulator is accurate and the community for that game accepts emulator as a valid choice, then yes, you can. The most commonly used emulators for each system include:

  • NES - FCEUX 2.2.0
  • GB - bgb
  • SNES - SNES9x 1.53
  • GBA - VBA 1.7.2
  • Genesis/GameGear/SMS - Fusion
  • N64 - Project64 v1.7

For reference, the following emulators are globally banned for use in racing:

  • SNES - ZSNES, snes9x 1.4x
  • N64 - Project64 2.x
  • GB/GBC - VBA, VBA-M
  • GBA - VBA-M (use VBA instead. If VBA does not support your GBA game, please contact an op.)

Edit:

I forgot to add the one that always make me chuckle a bit http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/08/accuracy-takes-power-one-mans-3ghz-quest-to-build-a-perfect-snes-emulator/

PC 1 Workstation/Gaming: Intel i7 5820K, GTX 980 SLI 16GB DDR4
PC 2 Capture/Stream: Intel i7 5820K, GTX 970, 32GB DDR4

Capture card: SC-512N1-L/DVI

Mixer: Behringer X2222USB

Consoles: Mountain of retro stuff

well I don't know about metroid prime but skyward sword ran fine and the point still stands you don't need an i5

The first one, I'd like to see a video of you running that intro without hitching. Could also be that new dolphin versions have vastly improved performance, but my i5 was pinned at 50% last time I played it. (50% means full saturation, since dolphin only uses 2 cores).

Granted, some games I can't even play. Like tales of symphonia. That runs abysmal.

EDIT; Just tested with latest dev. build. (granted, i'm running 4x native) it's still spiking >50%. And barely able to hit 60 fps constant.

My point is though, you can't run it on some POS shuttle PC.

yeah it ranges from 30 to 60 fps in game at 4x native although I didn't check what the utilisation was

Metriod Prime is pretty fucking easy to run. The hitching/occasional stutter is the emulator, not your PC btw. I can show you what settings I use to get 60fps about 95% of the time. Plus, I'm playing at 4x the native resolution and at 4K screen resolution. The emulator will slow down at times for reasons that I haven't been able to figure out.

well I don't particularly care tbh, I'm not actually going to play it anyway, I  just wanted to see what I would get
