Australian NBN Speed Question

desertcomputer

Recently my street got connected to NBN and we currently still with our current provider "TPG" with $69 plans... (don't laugh) it current called Tier 1 which has 12mpbs download speed and 1 mpbs upload speed which is speed i get from ADSL 2+ which i get around ~6mbps and ~0.8mpbs and at times it would drop down to 5mpbs and 0.2mpbs.

My Internet Speed:

Question

1. Because i found a cheaper plan which has Tier 2 speed for same price but it dosent allow me to upgrade to 50mbps/10mpbs down the track. Do you think 25mpbs would be enough for 4-6 user which some are streaming TV SHOWS/Gaming/Video Skype call etc. Like a average house usage. Would 25mpbs speed be fast enough. Because currently have good plan for local calls but i rarely see family members using home phone which i think Pay As You Go Phone would be good. Most of them uses Whatapps to contacts friend and family overseas and in state. This is plan i thinking of switching to? [https://ausbbs.com.au/NBN_UNI-V_Phone_Bundles]

2. What resolution could i stream gameplay at 60FPS or is that a too high a standard.

Summary:

Should i change plan to new provider which has faster speed but no umlimted local calls etc also have to sign contact unlike current already pass contact date like a year back.

PS: Australian Internet is really god damn expensive.

After looking at the cost for such slow internet I'm never moving to Australia, for that price here you can get like 152 down 12 up.

Streaming only requires about 3-4 Mbps

Streaming gameplay at 60fps is pointless because it needs a high high bitrate and not many people have good enough internet so it will stutter. (Plus your cpu isn't powerful enough)

4-6 users should be ok aslong as nobody's hammering downloads.

Im getting new build at end of this year. Going X99 and with 980ti. Already received my 980ti. So should chose 25mbps plan or keep current one?

Yeah the situation is fucked. More often than not, you get WAY less than the advertised speeds. Often hardly 2 or 3 down on a top tier plan. The landmass is so large and people are so few and far between, infrastructure is a nightmare here.

See if there's any ISPs in your area offering Tier 4, since Tier 4 is 100Mb down and 40Mb up.

If not, 25Mb down should be good because one time my 100Mb fibre was only running at 25 and I didn't even notice until I was downloading steam game.

Mate we Asian here too cheap probs the max to spend is $70 bucks.. there is 100mbps/50mpbs for 110. I will probably get higher tier if bloody plan get cheaper.... I need Unlimited Internet because last month i used over 200gbs just on my main PC... and my family watches movies and stuff all the time. If only Unlimited plan are cheaper

Hahaha you think the Internet is bad over East? Don't even think about moving to WA then. NBN, starting construction someplace near you in 2020...

And what's even better, the expected speeds will be something between 12 and 25, which is pathetic by todays standards.

So you could say that the NBN will be outdated before it's even done...

As for the topic. 25 is probably the bare minimum for that number of people. To say "if no one is downloading" is unrealistic, because they're going to...

Yeah unlucky I was on 200GB plan but since Telstra are nice people they gave us upgrade to 500GB for free so we don't use it all. Right now we pay $80 month

Yeah about that. Do you know why Telstra did that? if it's anything beyond just staying competitive. Because they sure didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts...
