Any car experts here? Need Advice!

IrshaadH

Hey all,

I was washing my car yesterday and noticed a small nick on the passenger rear tire.  There aren't any bulges and the tire pressure is good.  Should I be worried?

Thanks

The correct action in the event of sidewall damage is to replace the tire. However depending on how old the tires are, I might not in this case.

Stay farther away from curbs.

I would get it checked out. It's not on the treads so it's not a position that is designed for wear tolerances. In other words, the tire isn't thicker than it needs to be in that location.

yeah, I'm hoping to put off replacing it.  It's much smaller than it looks on the pictures (had to crop a lot to get a compatible file size).  The tires have about 12000 km on them.

When you lift it do you see anything that looks like metal wires or fabric? Or do you just see ruber.

Just rubber

It's probably ok to drive on, but if you did hit a pot hole or something at that exacts spot it might blow out there, if it is just off the surface I personally wouldn't worry./

I would replace the tire. Any damage to the side wall can end poorly. But you could probably ask a tire dealer what they think.

But if you do replace them, then keep in mind that it might be best to get two new tires, so that the rear has even wear. Uneven wear on the rear tires may cause the rear to become unstable in the rain, or during emergency braking.

If it's less then like 4mm deep I wouldn't worry, but if it's any deeper you should replace it.

oh ok, from my estimations, it's definitely less than 4mm.  But I'll get it checked soon anyway.

Thanks all!

Sell the tyre, sell the car, sell the house, buy something ridiculous, drive it, realise you don't have a house, drive to Linus, sell him car for Luke, be happy

I would have the tire checked out at your nearest tire shop.

If changing it is reccomended. Change the tires on both sides of the axle

Having a blowout mid corner isn't great. But from what i've seen you say in this thread it doesn't seem that serious

a tire shop will of course want to sell you a new tire.

don't even bother the cut isn't deep enough to warrant any sort of worry at all.

again don't worry about it at all what I would worry about is the rim clean that up and spray it with some clear coat or protectant before that flaking spreads
