Safe or nah?

Kermit

So last night I was unraveling my Macbook charger from its usual coiled state, and noticed a kink where the charging cable meets the power brick. I examined it, and like a dumb-ass, bent it the opposite direction. So now I have a semi-stripped cable coming out of the brick, and I don't know if it is dangerous to be exposed. I know a fair bit about PCs, but next to nothing about electricity and current. Is the charge coming out of the brick enough to zap someone if they step on it? or maybe create a spark?

Im planning on buying a new one, but I'd like to know whether or not to use it until then. (I can still charge my laptop, but only if I position it as shown in picture 2)

I wouldnt use it unless you're stuck in a field or something.

Considering it's a fairly standard replacement part, you'll be able to buy it everywhere for the exact same price, so just buy it asap

Best to replace it especially if the conductors inside are damaged, you don't' want to short it out.

I see some for $35-45... Are these just fakes or just bought from Apple in bulk?

Very likely it's so hard to tell the differences theses days without actually cracking it open to inspect the guts of it, personally I'd buy it from Apple if your worried about some of the cheap ones causing damage.

So I found a youtube vid with the same issue that I ran into, grabbed my soldering gun and electrical tape (shrink tubing was a failed attempt).

Power brick is disassembled, and kinked wires are snipped/stripped.

Soldering the connections, taping them off to prevent contact and a short.

I glued the case back together, and it works! It is completely safe, although the final look of it seems sloppy. I am overall happy with this, and if it ever becomes an issue, I won't bother doing this project again.

Thanks to everyone who helped :) YouTube vid:

Not bad, better than spending $100 for a new charger. If you want to prevent it and make it look a little neater try getting some adhesive heatshrink over that end it will make the cable stiffer but less prone to ripping or tearing.

I'll definitely look into that, just for aesthetics bc the cable is plenty stiff

yeah cuz if the cable is stripped it must mean the conductors inside are damaged...
