Is it worth to go for the IPV6 instead of IPV4?

Napussei

I'm getting a new modem and I was wondering if I should get one that supports IPV6 or should I just play it safe and get a good reliable modem that only has IPV4

Only works if your router supports it and mine has a frankensteined linux-based OS/firmware-thingy that I can't be bothered to rework. Will just have to get a new router at some point in the near future

False. There's desktop clients that autoupdate.

What if I want to access a specific computer in the network? Wouldn't I need a dyndns running on each of them instead of a single one on the router enabling me to forward specific ports to specific machines? That's basically what I'm doing right now, but I'm using xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx instead of a dns. IPv6 switch is getting pretty close here from what I've heard from the ISP (although they will still be providing IPv4 support for some 5-7 years after the entire network is IPv6 enables due to old client equipment)

All it does is update the IP address that a domain (or subdomain) points to. Only one machine on the network has to be running it. As for ports and all that, it's up to your network configuration.

I wish my ISP didn't provide dynamic IPs so I could just redirect a subdomain from my site to my home IP. I'll just have to buy a new router once my gigabit connection hits anyway. might aswell invest into something good so my bits don't get lost D:

Like I just said, dyndns will update the IP that the subdomain points to every time your IP changes.

You likely won't use the feature, however you should get the IPv6 model because in a few years it will become a standard for all ISPs. *future-proofing*

You're going off topic, actually you already went but what the hell.

Ok, ipv6 it is then. Any good suggestions for a 4G modem that supports ipv6?

Huawei E5776 has IPv6 support (dual stack). Other options would be Verzion 551L, Zte (Verzion) 890L.

Don't be a rookie and get a static block, then use DNS...

but.. but... I'm too lazy.

Also, managed to set up a sub-domain to point to my router (don't ask. I almost cried last night) so I'm done with that minor inconvenience for now.

Next up: buying a proper fiber switch so I can abuse my delicious bandwidth

You could go for a dual-stack router. Use IPv4 for your intern network (home) and IPv6 for extern network, however you should go 100% for IPv6.
