You can not go SATA to USB, only the other way. The SATA interface can only deal with disks wheres USB can deal with everything hence why its called USB a.k.a Universal Serial Bus.

So I have a ASUS X550CA laptop and it only has 2 USB ports. As a person who likes DIY projects etc I plan on doing this:

I have a CD drive which I do not use. The CD drive has a sata connector. So my question is can I do this:

Connect Sata to USB male then

Connect USB male to USB female

Then USB female to a USB hub and then mount it in the drive. I will be able to cut rectangles to my CD cover for the USB no problem there.

So overall will I be able to do this to get extra usb ports instead of a CD drive?

They do not exist, but it would be a fun project to do as a hobby, so if the connections work might aswell have some fun doing this project.
