What to do with four used SSDs?

iamdarkyoshi

I bought two hexacore rendering rigs for 300 bucks apiece. They each had a scamscum 830 256gb and 840 evo 128gb. I know that one ssd was the OS and the other was a scratch disk. I am planning on selling one rig and using the other, possibly with some ssd storage and a spare WD black in the rig to sell. What should I do with the ssds both for the rig to sell and rig to keep? My existing second gen i5 build has a single 1tb hybrid drive.

Sell the one rig with the ssd's. Sell the other two drives for peanuts. Then buy a modern 250gb ssd and use that for boot.

i am not sure what a used ssd could sell for if I dont know the exact history on it... might do that though. Could an asrock x79 extreme9 and an i7 3930k do anything useful with todays special drives?

can raid 0 be used on mixed capacities? what about the age of the drives?

Yeah they get combined (As far as I know) SSD's generally last longer than HDD's so age shouldn't be a prob.. My SSD storage drive has outlasted 2 of my Storage HDD's :D

hdds last longer with good cooling. I saw on one of linuses personal rig updates that his raided ssds were slowing down. Why?

They are slowing down because his Raid Card didn't support SSD's IE Trim support so they were getting "Junked" since Trim does periodic "Defrag" Basically just cleans out the drive of junk files

That's the thing. Selling them for peanuts is key. You don't know the history so making it a bargain As Is sale will do the trick. And it's why you don't use them for your rig. RAIDing or otherwise using the old drives is pointless. You don't know how long they'll last, and being old, they're not worth the hassles. For the few bucks that it costs it's just silly to not buy a new drive.

I had a Samsung S4 Active phone and I am so fed up with it that I am literally giving it away.

Would you be willing to part with a rig, I could drive to reno.
