The Rift

Trimak

Project Rift - In progress as parts arrive :D

No sponsors! (Wish I had some, still time before build begins  ;) as if...)

About this Build:

Ok so short story, I just moved to Berlin from Australia. Sold my old rig there and it's time to start again right from zero, I am using a shitty $100 laptop and I need a real rig. At present this is just a bit of a working ground and a place to get input and ideas and tips from people before I confirm parts and the buying begins   :)

This whole thing is a work in progress because I am uncertain about some of the parts and i'm watching the parts horizon a bit. The rig is supposed to get me by as a computer before the rift arrives and be rift level powerful when it does arrive, hence the future-proofing of 3-way SLI/CF, potentially many hard drives and therefore 1250w PSU etc.

Color scheme: Base of black with acid green highlights

would go with r9 390 instead of 970 for better performance and quote on quote better future proofing because it has twice as much vram

Not enough PCI-E lanes, I need 8 each for teh GPU's and 4 for the PCI-E SSD

Would you please be so kind to change the color to Automatic? I also suggest you follow your own topics @Trimak

Done :)

Titans seem like some seriously bad price to performance? Am I missing something?

Get a Corsair K70 RGB keyboard. As an owner I have nothing bad to say about it. Awesome build quality and nice switches (mines are Cherry MX Reds).

Woah that night theme is so... epic. As soon as you switch it on it's like a feeling of comfortability falls over you and yours eyes strain less. White websites to me are like when all computer towers were beige for years and then someone was like.... this is stupid let's try black.

I'll give that keyboard a look, my problem is I have never used a mech keyboard before so I know nothing about how the switches feel :(

Anyone know which rads 3 x 140 and 4 x 120 have aluminium fins? I am getting that purely because of fin strength, I mod and mess around a lot and the fins get bent if they are copper haha

For the pump, no question, you'll want a D5. You can get a Swifttech MP655, an EK, etc. from performance PC. As far as tubing, many high profile water-cooling guys like JayzTwoCents and PaulsHardware recommend Hardline tubing, even for the first time. I suggest Primochill PETG. As for fins, it might actually be a good idea to go copper, mixed metals like Aluminum and Copper can lead to some issues I think. I'm not an expert by any means, but JayzTwoCents and Choosemypc have excellent articles on these. Many people like Ek, Alphacool, and Hardwarelabs.

Are there different D5's? I read some pump stuff and was a bit confused. My last rig had an XSPC dual bay pump res combo so never looked into it.

Also yeah I know about the whole mixing metals thing but i'm still liking the idea of aluminium until it seems like a bad one

There are different D5's, but they are all pretty much the same. As long as you get one from EK, Swifttech, Aquacomputer or Alphacool, you should be good to go. The most popular is the Swifttech I believe...

Nice! Only thing I would suggest is use a different camera some better lightning, it makes a world of difference. Subbed.
