Issues removing malware (SafeFinder)

Go to solution Solved by Chronos5618,

Though I know this name is cursed on the forums, I shall utter it anyway (then go purify my body in a vat of holy water)- Norton Power Eraser has helped me out in sticky situations like yours, where other software has failed. Definitely worth a shot (and fairly sure you can put it on a usb from another computer if downloading it is an issue). Another thing- have you looked to uninstall it from the control panel. Sometimes (though not often) it can be as simple as that.

In all honesty, I'm new here and I'm not even sure I'm in the right place to ask for help with this, but I've tried almost every other guide I could find on the internet and nothing has worked, so hopefully you all can help. I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

I have absolutely no idea how, but every time I search up anything on any browser on my pc, my default search engine is replaced by something caled "SafeFinder." All efforts to remove SafeFinder from my system has ended in failure so far. I would like to find a solution to this problem WITHOUT resetting my computer to factory settings before considering doing just that, and if I will have to reset my computer, then I would like help with that as well.

My operating system is Windows 8.1 64bit.

My computer's specs are as follows:

Processor: AMD A8-5545 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.70 GHz

Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.20 GB Usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and Touch: Full Windows Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

My computer's bios version/date: Insyde F.14, 4/16/2014

Screenshot of the problem:

I think it is important to let you all know that while I feel like I know more than most people as far as computers are concerned, I still know very little overall, so I apologize if this seems like a stupid request. I am willing to learn and will be very greateful for any help you can give me. Thank you for your time.

Try malwarebytes, if that's to no avail try adwcleaner.

You may need to do the scan and clean from Safe mode as well.

At both Frankie and Dimi3os: I have run Malwarebytes multiple times and it removed...something...both times, but whatever that thing was it was not SafeFinder. I will however try adwcleaner. I heard with Malwarebytes it's a good idea to turn off your intivirus while running a scan with it, is this correct? And if so, should I do something similar with Adwcleaner?

It would not hurt but I ran Malwarebytes scan along with running Avast without a problem. :) As for AdwCleaner you just need to close all browsers.

You can download this https://www.malwarebytes.org/ it's a small program that detects anything that's not suppose to be in your computer. I've had issues like yours in the past and the program did fix it ever time
Also check the plugins on your browser, click on the menu button (its top right corner, it has like 3 vertical lines) and you click on addons. There you can see the addons you got on your browser, if you find anything strange you can just delete them. some may request that you restart your browser.
Anyway, malwarebytes is still the best solution

I have tried deleting anything strange multiple times and somehow it keeps coming back despite my efforts.

run malwarebytes..and super antispyware and the kaspersky av tool

I will try that next if this scan does not work.

My friend that did the trick! Thank you so much. Norton has redeemed itself a little bit in my eyes.
