144Hz vs 60Hz Monitor, which wins?

Ironixization

I was thinking about getting a 144hz monitor because of my setup is always hitting 60+ on most games, I asked my friend he knows alot about tech he said it would look like crap on a 144Hz if I wasn't hitting 144 frames?!? no matter if vsync on or off it would look bad?!

EDIT: YES I AM UPGRADING GPU

It's fine, only worth the money if you get like 100FPS or upgrade your graphics card.

Your friend is probably referring to tearing, but by that same metric you'll get tearing on 60hz as well if you aren't pushing exactly 60 or 30. So in conclusion he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

60+ what?

are you hitting 60-75 fps or 100-144 fps?

Well he is correct

That is how consoles make 30fps look acceptable. Lock it.

Consistency my friend. Its not all about numbers.

EDIT:

If fps go down and up its gonna look weird if you arent hitting a consistent fps.

Put on v-sync and you will get a stutter every time you drop below 144fps

You don't have to get 144fps. Even at 75-90fps it'd still look better than on a 60Hz monitor. If you're only hovering around 60fps it'd look better on a 60Hz monitor, but if you're reasonably above that it'll look better on 144Hz, even if you're not actually getting up to 144fps.

I own a 60 hz monitor but I heard 144 hz is a big difference at 60+ I'd go for 120 hz

Depending on game 63-75 fps on GTA V 100 - 144 fps on something like CoD, Tomb Raider, CS: GO.. ect more depends on intensity really normally about 100

IMO, a more accurate screen that produces better looking colors is more noticeable than higher refresh rates. However, I have noticed a significant difference overclocking my monitor from 60 to 75hz.

Yeah something like that really would work.

But I'm always pushing 60 on my setup.

If you dont want to notice what fps you are gaming at, get a gsync/freesync monitor. You get no tearing and the game will look good even when the fps jumps all over the place, as long as you got enough GPU power to keep above the minimum fps needed (30 on gsync and 30-45 on freesync).

And if you like fast phaced games like shooters, then get an screen that go above 60 fps.

I would go for a 1440p g-sync monitor then instead.

Consider 21:9
