No. just no. Why would you OC something already running @ 80*C ._.

Do yourself a favour and don't melt the laptop.

Not if the temps are not good to begin with. as long as you dont overvolt the power brick should be able to manage, but in most cases it isnt worth it.

If you have the desktop replacement style laptops, then they will likely be fine, as they are built like tanks with beefy heatsinks, but thin and lights are not the best candidates for overclocking.

If you are close to getting 60 fps n a game, and want to use vsync then it can be useful.

*IF* the temp is good like others have said, sure. The chances of a laptop GPU having Ok temps is basically 0, so short answer, no, not worth it.

2 things you need to consider...

First, if the laptop already runs hot, then it will thermal throttle and make it worse.

Second, it will use MUCH more power, reducing battery time.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Most laptops underclock the gpu on battery, if it is running at all, so I doubt that would be a problem, but the first point is very valid.

Not only this but it also might be hard on the soldered VRMs.

Yes but the level is based on % of CPU usage... if your overclocking it will still impact it.

Yeah, I guess it would all depend on the sustained power output of the battery, and if the cpu isnt being used much, the gpu could go back to stock clocks.

I still think OCing anything that is not at least 6 inches thich and have enough copper in it to be worth 500$ then it's not a good idea.

You know...

There's so many people who are so wrong right now >_<

Listen @MisterWhite if you want to overclock your laptop AND you have a laptop that's good for it (like a Clevo, an older alienware (good luck with them nVidia drivers though), the thicker MSI models or the thick ASUS models) then go for it. If you overheat, you're simply going to throttle. If you notice you're overheating, just dial back the overclock or adjust your fan speed if possible (FN + 1 on clevos, HWiNFO64 fan table on Alienwares, MSI fan table to max, no idea wtf ASUS does) and see if it works. If still somewhat hot, then repaste the GPU not trusting what the default paste jobs are. If you happen to overdraw your power brick, your system can just shut off with a black screen, but I doubt you'd overdraw your power brick without getting a custom vBIOS for your GPU and with some CPU overclocking, so don't worry about that.

If you have a Gigabyte, Aorus, Razer, slim MSI (GS series) or slim ASUS, Acer or Lenovo, then don't bother as you might run into thermal issues.

And please note that HQ CPUs are very bad for overclocking as they run into their TDP limits quite quickly and will simply stop drawing extra power (thus throttling themselves).

Also, to everybody here saying laptop overclocking is terrible/bad idea/impossible/doesn't do anything/etc, I happily point you to this:

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/5023396

and ask you to stfu if you don't know what you're talking about.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Right. So the people on NBR who run 24/7 OCs don't exist, and they're all mythical because their laptops should be burning down?

The people. At forum.notebookreview.com who run 24/7 OCs on their 680Ms/780Ms/860Ms/960Ms/970Ms/980Ms/etc. Who haven't had problems for years. And keep temps under control. They basically invalidate your arguement that "ocing = destroy GPU" or "OCing laptop is bad! Bad I say! BAD! *slaps OCing hand* BAD!" which is what people keep saying here.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I did too, and i even overvolted it. Ran for almost 3 years, gaming 7-8 hours/day and then i stop after i got my desktop.

Just updated it to Window 10 a couple of days ago and this is the 1st wave of Sandy Bridge laptop over 4 years ago.
