Should i upgrade my monitor?

TheSimpsons

Hi,

I have just build my new gaming pc, but I still use my old monitor.

its this one: http://www.iiyama.com/gl_en/products/prolite-e2207ws-2/ ( IIyama prolite E2207ws)

Its just 1680x1050 resolution and 60 hertz.

My pc specs are:

gtx 970

i5 4690

and in bf3 (on ultra) i get around 120-200 fps (measured via fraps)

Now i am thinking if it is worth buying a better monitor.

I am looking at one of these two:

- Asus VG248QE

- BenQ XL2411Z

My budget for the monitor is around 300 euros

What should i do?

well it is worth getting a better monitor but I dont know about 1080p.

sure it will give you more sharpness than the old resolution but at the same time it is just barely larger.

the 144Hz is a considerable upgrade and can be driven with your build.

so it depends on your budget, if you really dont wanna spend much - sure go ahead and get 1080 144Hz.

If you can afford more then I'd say 1440p 60Hz (I personally prefer the high res and sharpness over refreshrate).

either way you might wanna look into IPS panels for better colors.

looks good. its 25" though so things might be a little small but I guess you'll figure that out. the native size for 1440p is 27".

I can recommend the Dell U2715H but that is clearly more than 300€. I paid 480€ for mine while on sale.

I am using a 22" monitor right now, and i thing 27" would be to big for my desk (i sit too close to it)

So 24" is my max i think, so 1440p would not be optimal i guess;

I think i will go for 1080p

I wouldn't go 1080p.its an olddddd resolution.

you want 1440p minimum these days

Get the 144hz monitor. It will blow your fucking mind. And you`ll feel like you really got something worthwhile out of your new PC, which higher res wont do for you.

And it will be something very new and unique... which higher resolution isnt and you can simulate higher res with all kinds of fancy antialiasing.

ehrm... no. 1440p blew my mind way harder than 144Hz which is why I went with the 1440p IPS panel..

Yes, i understand. And the upcoming acer x34 will blow everyones dicks out of their skulls with its 1440p widescreen IPS and 100hz gsync, but it`ll cost 1300$.

But since the OP didnt mention budget i assumed its the lowest you can do for a gaming monitor. And when you are @ 200-250$ for a monitor you shouldnt get a 1440p, you`ll just get a crappy one. You should get a 144hz 24" TN (as much as i hate TN). But when i think about it, i get how the resolution might do it way more for some people.

He didnt mention budget, but if its 300-350$, then one of the overclockable-to-100hz 1440p ips koreans would be a good deal.

not really. 1080p is old and needs replacing. if we all kept things the same I'd still be rocking my pentium 1 244mhz processor!

but things change and advance.

plus 1080p looks like arse!!

my sever is connected to a 1080p display and I cringe when i have to do stuff.. basically equivalent to a dot matrix display all I see is pixels.

Ok, i hear you. Sounds right. I say the same about high refresh as well. I prefer to do work on a 120hz monitor on which i never play games.

my problem is the size, i use an 22" right now, and it should not be much bigger. I fear that a 27" would be too big for my desk, also because i sit close to it.

A 24" would be good, but 1440p at that size is not good.

Any tips?

24" 1440p still makes sense. youll still notice a huge difference over 1080p even on a smaller screen.

I went from a 24" to a 28" on my small desk and I never looked back! I also sit extremely close to it, there's only the width of my keyboard between the screen and my face!

I still wouldn't have a smaller monitor!!
